門徒對他說：“我們在這曠野地方，哪裡有足夠的食物給這許多的人吃飽呢？”

撒迦利亞對天使說：“我怎麼能知道這事呢？我已經老了，我妻子也上了年紀。”

耶穌回答他們：“你們給他們吃吧！”門徒說：“要我們去買兩百銀幣的餅給他們吃嗎？”

門徒回答：“在這曠野地方，從哪裡能找食物叫這些人吃飽呢？”

但那攙扶王的官長回答神人，說：“即使耶和華在天上開了窗戶，也不會有這事發生。”以利沙說：“看哪，你要親眼看見，卻吃不著。”

馬利亞對天使說：“我還沒有出嫁（“我還沒有出嫁”原文作“我不認識男人”），怎能有這事呢？”

“這裡有個小孩子，帶著五個大麥餅、兩條魚；只是分給這麼多人，有甚麼用呢？”

他說這話，是要試驗腓力，因他自己早已知道要怎樣作。腓力回答：“就算二百銀幣買的餅，每人分一點，也是不夠的。”
