My eager expectation and hope is that I will not be ashamed about anything, but that now as always, with all courage, Christ will be highly honored in my body, whether by life or by death.For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.Now if I live on in the flesh, this means fruitful work for me; and I don’t know which one I should choose.I am torn between the two. I long to depart and be with Christ— which is far better—but to remain in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.

And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.

If only my request would be granted and God would provide what I hope for:that he would decide to crush me, to unleash his power and cut me off!It would still bring me comfort, and I would leap for joy in unrelenting pain that I have not denied the words of the Holy One.

Why has my pain become unending, my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? You truly have become like a mirage to me— water that is not reliable.

Now if you would only forgive their sin. But if not, please erase me from the book you have written.”

so that I prefer strangling— death rather than life in this body.

Why did I come out of the womb to see only struggle and sorrow, to end my life in shame?
