Then Jacob summoned his sons and said,“ Assemble yourselves, so that I may tell you what will happen to you in the days to come.Gather together and listen, sons of Jacob; Yes, listen to Israel your father.“ Reuben, you are my firstborn, My might and the beginning of my strength, Preeminent in dignity and preeminent in power.Uncontrollable as water, you shall not have preeminence, Because you went up to your father’s bed; Then you defiled it— he went up to my couch.“ Simeon and Levi are brothers; Their swords are implements of violence.May my soul not enter into their council; May my glory not be united with their assembly; For in their anger they killed men, And in their self will they lamed oxen.Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce; And their wrath, for it is cruel. I will scatter them in Jacob, And disperse them among Israel.“ As for you, Judah, your brothers shall praise you; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your father’s sons shall bow down to you.Judah is a lion’s cub; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He crouches, he lies down as a lion, And as a lion, who dares to stir him up?The scepter will not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.He ties his foal to the vine, And his donkey’s colt to the choice vine; He washes his garments in wine, And his robes in the blood of grapes.His eyes are dull from wine, And his teeth white from milk.“ Zebulun will reside at the seashore; And he shall be a harbor for ships, And his flank shall be toward Sidon.“ Issachar is a strong donkey, Lying down between the sheepfolds.When he saw that a resting place was good And that the land was pleasant, He bowed his shoulder to carry burdens, And became a slave at forced labor.“ Dan shall judge his people, As one of the tribes of Israel.Dan shall be a serpent in the way, A horned viper in the path, That bites the horse’s heels, So that its rider falls backward.For Your salvation I wait, Lord.“ As for Gad, a band of raiders shall attack him, But he will attack at their heels.“ As for Asher, his food shall be rich, And he will yield royal delicacies.“ Naphtali is a doe let loose; He utters beautiful words.“ Joseph is a fruitful branch, A fruitful branch by a spring; Its branches hang over a wall.The archers provoked him, And shot at him and were hostile toward him;But his bow remained firm, And his arms were agile, From the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob( From there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel),From the God of your father who helps you, And by the Almighty who blesses you With blessings of heaven above, Blessings of the deep that lies beneath, Blessings of the breasts and of the womb.The blessings of your father Have surpassed the blessings of my ancestors Up to the furthest boundary of the everlasting hills; May they be on the head of Joseph, And on the top of the head of the one distinguished among his brothers.“ Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; In the morning he devours the prey, And in the evening he divides the spoils.”All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father said to them when he blessed them. He blessed them, every one with the blessing appropriate to him.Then he commanded them and said to them,“ I am about to be gathered to my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite,in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is opposite Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought along with the field from Ephron the Hittite as a burial site.There they buried Abraham and his wife Sarah, there they buried Isaac and his wife Rebekah, and there I buried Leah—the field and the cave that is in it, purchased from the sons of Heth.”When Jacob finished commanding his sons, he drew his feet into the bed and breathed his last, and was gathered to his people.

Genesis 30:5-20
Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son.Then Rachel said,“ God has vindicated me, and has indeed heard my voice and has given me a son.” Therefore she named him Dan.And Rachel’s slave Bilhah conceived again and bore Jacob a second son.So Rachel said,“ With mighty wrestling I have wrestled with my sister, and I have indeed prevailed.” And she named him Naphtali.When Leah saw that she had stopped having children, she took her slave Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife.And Leah’s slave Zilpah bore Jacob a son.Then Leah said,“ How fortunate!” So she named him Gad.And Leah’s slave Zilpah bore Jacob a second son.Then Leah said,“ Happy am I! For women will call me happy.” So she named him Asher.Now in the days of wheat harvest Reuben went and found mandrake fruits in the field, and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah,“ Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”But she said to her,“ Is it a small matter for you to take my husband? And would you take my son’s mandrakes also?” So Rachel said,“ Therefore he may sleep with you tonight in return for your son’s mandrakes.”When Jacob came in from the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him and said,“ You must have relations with me, for I have indeed hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” So he slept with her that night.God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son.Then Leah said,“ God has given me my reward, because I gave my slave to my husband.” So she named him Issachar.And Leah conceived again and bore a sixth son to Jacob.Then Leah said,“ God has endowed me with a good gift; finally my husband will acknowledge me as his wife, because I have borne him six sons.” So she named him Zebulun.

Now these are the names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn.And the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.And the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.And the sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah( but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). And the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.And the sons of Issachar: Tola, Puvvah, Iob, and Shimron.And the sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan aram, with his daughter Dinah; all his sons and his daughters numbered thirty three.And the sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.And the sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and their sister Serah. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah; and she bore to Jacob these sixteen persons.The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.Now to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.And the sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob; there were fourteen persons in all.And the sons of Dan: Hushim.And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.

Genesis 29:32-35
Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and named him Reuben, for she said,“ Because the Lord has seen my affliction; surely now my husband will love me.”Then she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and said,“ Because the Lord has heard that I am unloved, He has therefore given me this son also.” So she named him Simeon.And she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and said,“ Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore he was named Levi.And she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and said,“ This time I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped having children.

Genesis 35:17-26
And when she was suffering severe difficulties in her labor, the midwife said to her,“ Do not fear, for you have another son!”And it came about, as her soul was departing( for she died), that she named him Ben oni; but his father called him Benjamin.So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath( that is, Bethlehem).And Jacob set up a memorial stone over her grave; that is the memorial stone of Rachel’s grave to this day.Then Israel journeyed on and pitched his tent beyond the tower of Eder.And it came about, while Israel was living in that land, that Reuben went and slept with his father’s concubine Bilhah, and Israel heard about it. Now there were twelve sons of Jacob—the sons of Leah were Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, then Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun;the sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin;and the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s female slave, were Dan and Naphtali;and the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s female slave, were Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Paddan aram.

And I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:from the tribe of Judah, twelve thousand were sealed, from the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand, from the tribe of Gad twelve thousand,from the tribe of Asher twelve thousand, from the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand, from the tribe of Manasseh twelve thousand,from the tribe of Simeon twelve thousand, from the tribe of Levi twelve thousand, from the tribe of Issachar twelve thousand,from the tribe of Zebulun twelve thousand, from the tribe of Joseph twelve thousand, and from the tribe of Benjamin, twelve thousand were sealed.

Now this is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the sons of Israel before his death.He said,“ The Lord came from Sinai, And dawned on them from Seir; He shone from Mount Paran, And He came from the midst of myriads of holy ones; At His right hand there was flashing lightning for them.Indeed, He loves the people; All Your holy ones are in Your hand, And they followed in Your steps; Everyone takes of Your words.Moses issued to us the Law, A possession for the assembly of Jacob.And He was king in Jeshurun, When the heads of the people gathered, The tribes of Israel together.“ May Reuben live and not die, Nor may his people be few.”And this was regarding Judah; so he said:“ Hear, Lord, the voice of Judah, And bring him to his people. With his hands he contended for them, And may You be a help against his adversaries.”Of Levi he said,“ Let Your Thummim and Your Urim belong to Your godly man, Whom You tested at Massah, With whom You contended at the waters of Meribah;Who said of his father and his mother,‘ I did not consider them’; And he did not acknowledge his brothers, Nor did he regard his own sons, For they kept Your word, And complied with Your covenant.They will teach Your ordinances to Jacob, And Your Law to Israel. They shall put incense before You, And whole burnt offerings on Your altar.Lord, bless his strength, And accept the work of his hands; Smash the hips of those who rise up against him, And those who hate him, so that they do not rise again.”Of Benjamin he said,“ May the beloved of the Lord live in security beside Him Who shields him all the day long, And he lives between His shoulders.”Of Joseph he said,“ Blessed of the Lord be his land, With the choice things of heaven, with the dew, And from the deep waters lying beneath,And with the choice yield of the sun, And the choice produce of the months;And with the best things of the ancient mountains, With the choice things of the everlasting hills,And with the choice things of the earth and its fullness, And the favor of Him who dwelt in the bush. Let it come to the head of Joseph, And to the top of the head of the one who was prince among his brothers.As the firstborn of his ox, majesty is his, And his horns are the horns of the wild ox; With them he will gore the peoples All at once, to the ends of the earth. And those are the ten thousands of Ephraim, And those are the thousands of Manasseh.”Of Zebulun he said,“ Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out, And, Issachar, in your tents.They will call peoples to the mountain; There they will offer righteous sacrifices; For they will draw out the abundance of the seas, And the hidden treasures of the sand.”Of Gad he said,“ Blessed is the one who enlarges Gad; He lies down as a lion, And tears the arm, also the crown of the head.Then he selected the choicest part for himself, For there the ruler’s portion was reserved; And he came with the leaders of the people; He executed the justice of the Lord, And His ordinances with Israel.”Of Dan he said,“ Dan is a lion’s cub; He leaps out from Bashan.”Of Naphtali he said,“ Naphtali, satisfied with favor, And full of the blessing of the Lord, Take possession of the sea and the south.”Of Asher he said,“ More blessed than sons is Asher; May he be favored by his brothers, And may he dip his foot in olive oil.Your bars will be iron and bronze, And as your days, so will your strength be.“ There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, Who rides the heavens to your help, And the clouds in His majesty.The eternal God is a hiding place, And underneath are the everlasting arms; And He drove out the enemy from you, And said,‘ Destroy!’So Israel lives in security, The fountain of Jacob secluded, In a land of grain and new wine; His heavens also drip down dew.Blessed are you, Israel; Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord, The shield of your help, And He who is the sword of your majesty! So your enemies will cringe before you, And you will trample on their high places.”

Exodus 1:2-5
