西緬和利未是弟兄；他們的刀劍是強暴之器械。我的心哪，不要進入他們的議會；我的肝腸啊，不要參加他們的集團；因為他們氣忿忿地殺人，任意砍斷牛腿大筋；

她又懷孕生子，就說：『永恆主聽見我少得寵愛，所以又給我這個兒子』，於是給孩子起名叫西緬。

到了第三天，眾人還在疼痛的時候，雅各的兩個兒子，底拿的哥哥，西緬和利未，各拿刀劍，泰然自若地來到那城，把所有的男丁都殺了。也用刀殺死了哈抹和他的兒子示劍，從示劍家裏帶了底拿出來。雅各的兒子們因為人把他們的妹妹玷污了，就來到被刺死的人那裏，掠劫那城；拿了他們的羊羣牛羣和驢、以及在城裏和田野裏所有的；又把他們所有的資財、幼童和婦女都擄掠了去：凡屋裏所有的、都掠劫一光。雅各對西緬和利未說：『你們把我搞壞了，使我在這地的居民中，在迦南人和比利洗人中間，有了臭名。我人數既然稀少，他們是會聚集來攻打我、擊殺我的，那我和我的家就被消滅了。』
