“ You are the Lord God, who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans and named him Abraham.

塔勒帶著他的兒子亞伯蘭和他的孫子，就是哈蘭的兒子羅得，也帶著他的兒媳婦——他兒子亞伯蘭的妻子撒萊，一同從迦勒底的吾珥出來，要往迦南地去。他們來到哈蘭的時候，就在那裡住下了。

你的名字不再叫亞伯蘭，而要叫亞伯拉罕，因為我已立你為多國之父。

耶和華對亞伯蘭說：「你當離開你的本土、本族、父家，往我將要指示你的地去。我要使你成為一個大國，我要祝福你，使你的名為大；你也必成為別人的祝福！

司提反說：「各位父老兄弟，請聽！我們的先祖亞伯拉罕住哈蘭以前，還在美索不達米亞的時候，榮耀的神向他顯現，對他說：『你要離開你的故土和親族，到我所要指示你的地方去。』「於是亞伯拉罕離開迦勒底人的地方，住在哈蘭。他的父親死了以後，神使他從那裡遷移到你們現在所住的這地方。

你們要仰望你們的先祖亞伯拉罕，以及那生你們的撒拉。我召喚了亞伯拉罕一個人，祝福了他，使他繁衍增多。

可是你，以色列啊，我的僕人！雅各啊，我所揀選的，我朋友亞伯拉罕的後裔！你是我從地極領來，從地角召來的；我對你說：「你是我的僕人；我揀選了你，沒有棄絕你。」

耶和華對他說：「我是耶和華，我把你從迦勒底人的吾珥領出來，為要將這地賜給你，使你擁有它。」
