They didn’t serve you. They didn’t turn from their evil ways. They didn’t obey you even when they had a kingdom. You were very good to them. And they enjoyed it. You gave them a rich land. It had plenty of room in it. But they still didn’t serve you.

Even in their own kingdom, and amid your great goodness that you gave them, and in the large and rich land that you set before them, they did not serve you or turn from their wicked works.

緣爾當富有之時、不歡心樂意奉事主爾之天主、

迨遇多災多難、此歌既在其子孫口中諷誦不忘、即可向彼作證、我所誓許斯民之地、今我未導彼入之之時、我已知其心懷與其所將為者、

主爾之天主導爾入美地、無論平原山地、皆有水流湧出、有泉有河有湖、其土產小麥麰麥、葡萄無花果、石榴油果與蜜、爾在其地得食無缺、無所匱乏、其地之石即鐵、其山中爾可掘銅、爾食而飽、當因所賜爾之美地、讚頌主爾之天主、

彼取鞏固之城邑、膏腴之土地、獲充於嘉物之宅、掘成之井、葡萄園、油果樹園、果木甚多、食之得飽而體胖、蒙主大恩而歡樂、

如是主獨引導斯民、並無別神偕主相助、使其得登地之高嶺、使其得食所產於田、使由巖穴得蜜吸飲、使由堅磐得油以用、牛酥羊乳羔羊之脂、巴珊所出綿山牡羊、至嘉麥麵賜之以食、以葡萄汁為醴得飲、耶書崙胖奔踶不馴、其身肥腯為脂所蒙、遂違棄造之之天主、救之之主彼竟藐視、

民若曰、主我之天主、降此諸災於我何故、爾耶利米則謂之曰、主曰、爾既棄我、於爾地事異邦之神、故必在非爾之地、事異邦之人、
