For many years you were patient with them. By your Spirit you warned them through your prophets. Yet they paid no attention, so you gave them into the hands of the neighboring peoples.

For many years you put up with them. By your Spirit you warned them through your prophets. In spite of that, they didn’t pay any attention. So you handed them over to the nations that were around them.

Many years you bore with them and warned them by your Spirit through your prophets. Yet they would not give ear. Therefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

In your love, you were patient with them for many years. You sent your Spirit, who warned them through the prophets. But still they wouldn’t listen! So once again you allowed the peoples of the land to conquer them.

言曰、爾強項、心不悟、耳不聰之人、恆逆聖神、爾祖如是、爾曹亦如是、

誰使雅各遭攘奪、誰付以色列於刼掠者、豈非主乎、因我儕獲罪於主、不欲行主道、不聽從主之律法、

基督之神、在先知心中、預言基督受苦後得榮、彼考察神所指者、為何期何時、

蓋預言素非由人意而來、乃天主所選之聖人、感於聖神而言之者、

抑爾藐視其鴻慈、寛容、恆忍、不知天主之仁愛、導爾悔改乎、

今我示爾、我此葡萄園、我將何以處之、必撤去藩籬、任獸噬之、毀其墻垣、任其蹂躪、使為荒蕪、不修不鋤、荊棘疾藜、徧生其中、亦命雲不復降雨其上、

萬有之主曰、我呼彼、彼不聽、彼籲我、我亦不聽、

主所定之事、在古昔所命者、今已為之、所言無不應驗、拆毀務盡、不加矜恤、俾爾仇人、因爾喜樂、使爾敵人、昂首自得、昂首自得原文作高舉其角

惟彼悖逆、使主之聖神懷憂、主則視之如敵而攻擊之、

加以警戒、使復服主之律法、乃彼狂妄、不從主之誡命、干犯主之法度、人若遵之必得生、彼乃違背強項、不欲聽從、

乃彼不順、叛逆主、背棄主之律法、殺勸其歸主之眾先知、行大褻瀆之事、

主藉諸先知與諸先見、警戒以色列人及猶大人曰、當棄惡行、守我誡命法度、循我所命爾列祖、又藉我僕眾先知授爾之律法、斯民不聽、強項不馴、不信主其天主、與其列祖無異、違棄主之律例、及主與其列祖所立之約、並主警戒之言、從虛無之神、行虛妄之事、主命之勿效四周異邦人所為、彼反從之、棄主其天主之一切誡命、鎔鑄二犢、立亞舍拉、亞舍拉或作木偶崇拜天之萬象、奉事巴力、焚獻子女、原文作使其子女過於火用邪術、信卜筮、專行惡於主前、干犯其怒、主甚怒以色列人、逐於其前、所留者惟猶大一支派而已、

主其列祖之天主因憐其民、惜其居所、日日日日原文作每晨遣使者訓誨之、彼訕笑天主之使者、藐視其言、侮辱侮辱或作譏諷其先知、故主震怒其民、不復援之、

自爾列祖出伊及之時、迄於今日、我屢屢原文作每日清晨遣我僕眾先知、以警教爾、

侍衛長召耶利米告之曰、主爾之天主、曾言降災於斯地、今主已降之、如言而行、因爾曹獲罪於主、不聽其命、故遭遇此事、

惟主乃矜憐慈愛容忍之天主、大施恩惠、大有誠實、

彼此不合皆散、將散時、保羅發一言曰、昔聖神託先知以賽亞告我列祖之言誠是、

主屢遣其僕諸先知以警爾、惟爾不聽、不傾耳以聽、

因爾之惡行、因爾所作可憎之事、主不能復容忍、故使爾土地荒蕪、令人驚駭、受咒詛、無人居處、有如今日之景象、

在曠野撫養之、約四十年、

主又賜聖善之神以訓之、仍賜瑪拿、不絕於其口、賜之水飲、以止其渴、

主所許者尚未應驗、人以為主遲緩、實則主非遲緩、乃寛容我儕、欲人皆悔改、不欲有一人淪亡、
