So you delivered them into the hands of their enemies, who oppressed them. But when they were oppressed they cried out to you. From heaven you heard them, and in your great compassion you gave them deliverers, who rescued them from the hand of their enemies.

By day you led them with a pillar of cloud, and by night with a pillar of fire to give them light on the way they were to take.

for their sake he remembered his covenant and out of his great love he relented.

By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.

For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea.They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea.

Whether by day or by night, whenever the cloud lifted, they set out.Whether the cloud stayed over the tabernacle for two days or a month or a year, the Israelites would remain in camp and not set out; but when it lifted, they would set out.

But for the sake of my name I did what would keep it from being profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.

When our ancestors were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea.Yet he saved them for his name’s sake, to make his mighty power known.

And they will tell the inhabitants of this land about it. They have already heard that you, Lord, are with these people and that you, Lord, have been seen face to face, that your cloud stays over them, and that you go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.

But I withheld my hand, and for the sake of my name I did what would keep it from being profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.

Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.

“ Remember these things, Jacob, for you, Israel, are my servant. I have made you, you are my servant; Israel, I will not forget you.

Then the Lord will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over everything the glory will be a canopy.It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain.

So the cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.

“ I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.

For the sake of his great name the Lord will not reject his people, because the Lord was pleased to make you his own.

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.

The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him;

But in your great mercy you did not put an end to them or abandon them, for you are a gracious and merciful God.
