“ Because of your great compassion you did not abandon them in the wilderness. By day the pillar of cloud did not fail to guide them on their path, nor the pillar of fire by night to shine on the way they were to take.

“ Because you loved them so much, you didn’t leave them in the desert. During the day the pillar of cloud didn’t stop guiding them on their path. At night the pillar of fire didn’t stop shining on the way you wanted them to go.

you in your great mercies did not forsake them in the wilderness. The pillar of cloud to lead them in the way did not depart from them by day, nor the pillar of fire by night to light for them the way by which they should go.

“ But in your great mercy you did not abandon them to die in the wilderness. The pillar of cloud still led them forward by day, and the pillar of fire showed them the way through the night.

you did not abandon them in the wilderness because of your great compassion. During the day the pillar of cloud never turned away from them, guiding them on their journey. And during the night the pillar of fire illuminated the way they should go.

所以你把他们交在敌人的手中，好让他们受困苦；他们受困苦的时候，就向你呼求，你就从天上垂听，按着你丰盛的怜悯，赐给他们拯救者，拯救他们脱离敌人的手。

日间你用云柱引导他们，夜间用火柱光照他们要行的路。

他为他们的缘故记念他自己的约，照着他丰盛的慈爱回心转意。

耶和华在他们前面行，日间用云柱领他们的路，夜间用火柱光照他们，使他们日夜都可以行走。日间云柱，夜间火柱，都不离开众民的面前。

弟兄们，我不愿意你们不知道，我们的祖宗都曾经在云下，都曾经从海中经过，都曾经在云里在海里受洗归于摩西。

在竖立帐幕的那一天，有云彩遮盖着帐幕，就是法柜的帐幕；到了晚上，云彩在帐幕上，形状像火，直到早晨。常常是这样：白天（《马索拉文本》无“白天”，现参照各古译本补上）有云彩遮盖帐幕，夜间云彩形状像火。云彩什么时候从会幕上收去，以色列人就起行；云彩在什么地方停住，以色列人就在那里安营。以色列人照着耶和华的吩咐起行，也照着耶和华的吩咐安营；云彩在帐幕上停留多久，他们就安营多久。如果云彩多日停留在帐幕上，以色列人就遵守耶和华的吩咐，不起行。有时云彩停留在帐幕上只有几天，他们就照着耶和华的吩咐安营；也照着耶和华的吩咐起行。有时云彩从晚上到早晨停住；到了早晨，云彩一收上去，他们就起行；有时云彩从白昼到晚上都停住；云彩一收上去，他们就起行。云彩停留在帐幕上不论有多久，或两天、或一月、或一年，以色列人就安营，不起行；云彩一收上去，他们就起行。

然而我为了我名的缘故没有这样作，免得我的名在列国的人眼中被亵渎；我曾在他们眼前把以色列人领出来。

我们的列祖在埃及的时候，不明白你的奇事，也不记念你丰盛的慈爱，反倒在红海的海边悖逆了你。但他因自己的名的缘故拯救他们，为要彰显他的大能。

埃及人也必告诉那地的居民。那地的居民也曾听见你耶和华是在这人民中间，你耶和华曾面对面的向人显现，你的云彩常停在他们上面；日间你在云柱中，夜间你在火柱中，走在他们前面。

然而我为了我名的缘故缩手，没有这样作，免得我名在列国的人眼中被亵渎；我曾在他们眼前把以色列人领出来。

我的神啊！求你侧耳而听，睁眼垂顾我们的荒凉，和那称为你名下的城；因为我们向你恳求，并不是因着自己的义，而是因着你的大怜悯。

雅各和以色列啊！要记念这些话，因为你是我的仆人。我造了你，是要你作我的仆人；以色列啊！你必不会被我忘记。

然后，耶和华必在锡安全山之上，并会众之上，在日间创造云和烟，夜间创造有火焰的光亮，因为在一切荣耀之上，必有遮盖。也必有亭子，日间可以使人得阴凉、避炎热，也可以作避难时藏身之所，或作躲避狂风暴雨之处。

因为以色列人所有的旅程中，日间有耶和华的云彩在帐幕上，夜间云中有火，显在以色列全家的眼前。

万军之耶和华说：“因为我耶和华是不改变的，所以你们雅各的子孙也不会灭没。

耶和华为了自己的大名的缘故，必不丢弃他的子民，因为他喜欢使你们作他的子民。

耶和华的慈爱永不断绝，他的怜悯永不止息。

虽然我们背叛了主我们的神，他仍是满有怜悯和饶恕。

然而因你丰富的怜悯，你不把他们灭尽，也不撇弃他们，因为你是有恩典有怜悯的神。
