And testified against them, That You might bring them back to Your law. Yet they acted proudly, And did not heed Your commandments, But sinned against Your judgments,‘ Which if a man does, he shall live by them.’ And they shrugged their shoulders, Stiffened their necks, And would not hear.

“ But My people would not heed My voice, And Israel would have none of Me.So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart, To walk in their own counsels.“ Oh, that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways!I would soon subdue their enemies, And turn My hand against their adversaries.

“ You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.

“ Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:‘ Behold, I will bring on this city and on all her towns all the doom that I have pronounced against it, because they have stiffened their necks that they might not hear My words.’”

Can He provide meat for His people?”Therefore the Lord heard this and was furious; So a fire was kindled against Jacob, And anger also came up against Israel,Because they did not believe in God, And did not trust in His salvation.Yet He had commanded the clouds above, And opened the doors of heaven,Had rained down manna on them to eat, And given them of the bread of heaven.Men ate angels’ food; He sent them food to the full.He caused an east wind to blow in the heavens; And by His power He brought in the south wind.He also rained meat on them like the dust, Feathered fowl like the sand of the seas;And He let them fall in the midst of their camp, All around their dwellings.So they ate and were well filled, For He gave them their own desire.They were not deprived of their craving; But while their food was still in their mouths,The wrath of God came against them, And slew the stoutest of them, And struck down the choice men of Israel.In spite of this they still sinned, And did not believe in His wondrous works.Therefore their days He consumed in futility, And their years in fear.When He slew them, then they sought Him; And they returned and sought earnestly for God.Then they remembered that God was their rock, And the Most High God their Redeemer.Nevertheless they flattered Him with their mouth, And they lied to Him with their tongue;For their heart was not steadfast with Him, Nor were they faithful in His covenant.But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, And did not destroy them. “ But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; You grew fat, you grew thick, You are obese! Then he forsook God who made him, And scornfully esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

Because I knew that you were obstinate, And your neck was an iron sinew, And your brow bronze,

“ Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, As in the day of trial in the wilderness,When your fathers tested Me; They tried Me, though they saw My work.For forty years I was grieved with that generation, And said,‘ It is a people who go astray in their hearts, And they do not know My ways.’

while it is said:“ Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

And the Lord said to Moses,“ I have seen this people, and indeed it is a stiff-necked people!

Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!

But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; So He turned Himself against them as an enemy, And He fought against them.

but exhort one another daily, while it is called“ Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

“ Nevertheless you would not go up, but rebelled against the command of the Lord your God;and you complained in your tents, and said,‘ Because the Lord hates us, He has brought us out of the land of Egypt to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.Where can we go up? Our brethren have discouraged our hearts, saying,“ The people are greater and taller than we; the cities are great and fortified up to heaven; moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.”’“ Then I said to you,‘ Do not be terrified, or afraid of them.The Lord your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all He did for you in Egypt before your eyes,and in the wilderness where you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went until you came to this place.’Yet, for all that, you did not believe the Lord your God,who went in the way before you to search out a place for you to pitch your tents, to show you the way you should go, in the fire by night and in the cloud by day.

Therefore understand that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people.

Likewise, when the Lord sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying,‘ Go up and possess the land which I have given you,’ then you rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God, and you did not believe Him nor obey His voice.You have been rebellious against the Lord from the day that I knew you.

Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, Will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

and said,“ If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

“ Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you! O Israel, if you will listen to Me!

“ Furthermore the Lord spoke to me, saying,‘ I have seen this people, and indeed they are a stiff-necked people.

Now do not be stiff-necked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves to the Lord; and enter His sanctuary, which He has sanctified forever, and serve the Lord your God, that the fierceness of His wrath may turn away from you.

But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
