In their hunger you gave them bread from heaven and in their thirst you brought them water from the rock; you told them to go in and take possession of the land you had sworn with uplifted hand to give them.

When the people were hungry, you gave them bread from heaven. When they were thirsty, you brought them water out of a rock. You told them to go into the land of Canaan. You told them to take it as their own. It was the land you had promised to give them.

When the layer of dew evaporated, there were fine flakes on the desert surface, as fine as frost on the ground.When the Israelites saw it, they asked one another,“ What is it?” because they didn’t know what it was. Moses told them,“ It is the bread the LORD has given you to eat.

They asked, and he brought quail and satisfied them with bread from heaven.He opened a rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a stream in the desert.

However, I swore to them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land I had given them— the most beautiful of all lands, flowing with milk and honey—

who turned the rock into a pool, the flint into a spring.

Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.”Jesus said to them,“ Truly I tell you, Moses didn’t give you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.For the bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”Then they said,“ Sir, give us this bread always.”“ I am the bread of life,” Jesus told them.“ No one who comes to me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty again.

He led you through the great and terrible wilderness with its poisonous snakes and scorpions, a thirsty land where there was no water. He brought water out of the flint rock for you.He fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your ancestors had not known, in order to humble and test you, so that in the end he might cause you to prosper.

You sent your good Spirit to instruct them. You did not withhold your manna from their mouths, and you gave them water for their thirst.

He rained manna for them to eat; he gave them grain from heaven.People ate the bread of angels. He sent them an abundant supply of food.

The LORD spoke to Moses,“ Take the staff and assemble the community. You and your brother Aaron are to speak to the rock while they watch, and it will yield its water. You will bring out water for them from the rock and provide drink for the community and their livestock.”So Moses took the staff from the LORD’s presence just as he had commanded him.Moses and Aaron summoned the assembly in front of the rock, and Moses said to them,“ Listen, you rebels! Must we bring water out of this rock for you?”Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff, so that abundant water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron,“ Because you did not trust me to demonstrate my holiness in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this assembly into the land I have given them.”These are the Waters of Meribah, where the Israelites quarreled with the LORD, and he demonstrated his holiness to them.

See, the LORD your God has set the land before you. Go up and take possession of it as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, has told you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.

I swear that none of you will enter the land I promised to settle you in, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

“ Moses my servant is dead. Now you and all the people prepare to cross over the Jordan to the land I am giving the Israelites.I have given you every place where the sole of your foot treads, just as I promised Moses.Your territory will be from the wilderness and Lebanon to the great river, the Euphrates River— all the land of the Hittites— and west to the Mediterranean Sea.
