Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and teacher of the Law, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to them all,“ This day is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.

All these men said to the people,“ This day is set apart to honor the Lord your God. So don’t weep. Don’t be sad.” All the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.

告以色列族云、七月之朔、當守安息日、必有聖會、吹角為記、

爾與子女僕婢、暨居爾中之利未人、以及賓旅孤寡、咸在爾上帝耶和華所選寄名之處、樂於其前、

方伯曰、至聖之物、彼不可食、迨至有烏陵土明之祭司起、

七月朔、乃吹角之期、必有聖會、毋作苦、取牡犢一、牡綿羊一、一歲之羔七、純全無疵、獻為燔祭、以為馨香、奉於耶和華、所獻素祭、乃和油之細麵、為牡犢、用伊法十分之三、為牡綿羊、用伊法十分之二、為每羔羊、用伊法十分之一、更獻牡山羊一、為贖罪祭、以贖爾罪、此在月朔之燔祭素祭、與恆獻之燔祭素祭、及循例之灌祭之外、以為馨香之火祭、奉於耶和華、○

昔我無律而生、誡至、罪復生而我死、

祭司以斯拉為文士、明耶和華之誡命、及所賜以色列之典章、亞達薛西王降詔、其文曰、

凡在錫安哀悼者、賜以花冠、代其灰塵、沃以喜樂之膏、代其悲傷、被以頌美之服、代其憂戚、俾稱為義樹、乃耶和華所植、以彰其榮、

維此聖物、居喪時、我未食之、不潔時、我未移之、為死者、我未用之、惟聽我上帝耶和華命、遵爾所諭而行、

諭誨以色列眾之利未人、即區別為聖歸於耶和華者、曰、當以聖匱、置於以色列王、大衛子所羅門所建之室、不復肩負、宜奉事爾之上帝耶和華、服事其民以色列、

耶書亞、巴尼、示利比、雅憫、亞谷、沙比太、何第雅、瑪西雅、基利他、亞撒利雅、約撒拔、哈難、毘萊雅、與利未人、訓民明律、庶民立於其所、利未人朗誦上帝律書、解釋其義、俾民洞悉所誦者、

利未人通達耶和華之役事、希西家以善言慰藉之、於是民食節肉、獻酬恩祭、稱謝其列祖之上帝耶和華、凡歷七日、

爾聞我指此地、與其居民所言、必為荒墟、而受呪詛、乃中心柔順、自卑於耶和華前、裂衣哭泣、我俞允爾、耶和華言之矣、

今我喜、非因爾憂、乃因爾憂而生改悔、蓋爾憂乃依上帝旨、致爾無所受損於我儕、夫依上帝旨而憂、則生改悔、以致得救、無後悔、惟斯世之憂則致死、試觀爾依上帝旨而憂、生何如之慇懃、自訴、怨艾、恐懼、戀慕、熱衷、譴責、爾於斯悉自表為潔矣、

我民緣無知而見滅、爾棄知識、我亦棄爾、不容為我祭司、爾忘爾上帝法律、我亦忘爾子、

王聞律書之言、自裂其衣、

蓋於上帝前、無人因行律見義、第由律知罪耳、○

以色列人無真神、無訓誨之祭司、亦無法律、為日已久、

爾復有所行、即使哀哭、歎息涕泣、遍於耶和華之壇、致耶和華不復顧爾禮物、不由爾手樂納之也、

王聞法律之言、自裂其衣、

汝其往哉、為我與以色列及猶大之遺民、以此書之言、詢於耶和華、因我列祖不守耶和華之言、不遵此書所載而行、故耶和華向我、洩忿甚烈、
