So the people went out and brought back branches and built themselves temporary shelters on their own roofs, in their courtyards, in the courts of the house of God and in the square by the Water Gate and the one by the Gate of Ephraim.

過了以法蓮門、古門、魚門、哈楠業樓、哈米亞樓，直到羊門，就在護衛院的門前站住。

以色列王約阿施在伯．示麥捉住了亞哈謝的孫子、約阿施的兒子猶大王亞瑪謝。他們來到耶路撒冷，拆毀了耶路撒冷一段城牆，從以法蓮門直到角門，共兩百公尺。

他們到了泉門，就登上大衛城的臺階，隨著城牆的升勢，經過大衛的宮殿，走到東邊的水門。

居住在俄斐勒的殿役，修築直到東面水門對面和突出的城樓那一段牆。

攻打這城的迦勒底人必進來，放火燒城，城中的房屋都必燒光，因為這城的居民曾在那些房屋的屋頂上向巴力燒香，向別神澆奠祭，惹我發怒。

在水門前面的廣場，從清早到中午，向眾男女和聽了能明白的人宣讀出來。眾民都側耳傾聽這律法書的話。

瑪拿西在耶和華殿的兩院中，為天上的萬象築壇，

約沙法就在猶大和耶路撒冷的會眾中，站在耶和華殿的新院子前面，

‘耶路撒冷的房屋和猶大列王的宮殿，都要像陀斐特一樣成為不潔；人曾在這一切房屋宮殿的屋頂上，向天上的萬象燒香，向別神澆奠祭。’”

“如果你建造新房屋，要在屋頂上作欄杆；免得有人從那裡跌下來，流血的罪就歸到你家。

有一天近黃昏的時候，大衛從床上起來，在王宮的平頂上散步。他從平頂上看見一個婦人在洗澡；這婦人容貌非常美麗。

到了七月，以色列人都住在自己的城裡。（《馬索拉文本》以本句為7:73下半節）那時眾民如同一人，在水門前的廣場聚集，請經學家以斯拉把耶和華藉摩西命令以色列人遵守的律法書帶來。
