到了七月，各城里的以色列人，如同一人，都在耶路撒冷聚集。约萨达的儿子耶书亚和作祭司的亲族，撒拉铁的儿子所罗巴伯和他的兄弟都起来，建筑以色列神的祭坛，为要照着神人摩西律法书上所写的，在祭坛上献燔祭。因为他们惧怕当地的居民，就在殿的原有根基上建立祭坛，在祭坛上向耶和华献燔祭，就是早晚的燔祭。他们又按照律法上所记载的守住棚节，每天照着规定的数目献上当天的燔祭。另外，又献常献的燔祭、月朔献的燔祭和一切耶和华的圣节所献的燔祭，以及甘心乐意的人向耶和华所献的甘心祭。从七月一日起，他们就开始向耶和华献燔祭，但是那时耶和华的殿还没有立定根基，他们把银子给石匠和木匠，把食物、饮料和油给西顿人和推罗人，叫他们照着波斯王古列所允许的，把香柏木从黎巴嫩经海运送到约帕。众人来到耶路撒冷神的殿以后，第二年二月，撒拉铁的儿子所罗巴伯、约萨达的儿子耶书亚和他们其余的兄弟，就是祭司、利未人和所有从被掳之地回到耶路撒冷的人，就开始动工建造；又委派二十岁以上的利未人，监督耶和华殿的工程。耶书亚和他的儿子及兄弟，甲篾和他的儿子，就是何达威雅的子孙（“何达威雅的子孙”或译：“犹大人”），同心协力监督建造神殿的工人，有利未人希拿达的儿子和兄弟协助他们。建筑工人奠立耶和华殿根基的时候，祭司都穿上礼服，拿着号筒，亚萨子孙的利未人，都拿着响钹，站在自己的位置，按照以色列王大卫所定的仪式赞美耶和华。他们赞美和称谢，向耶和华歌唱，说：“耶和华是至善的，他向以色列人所施的慈爱永远长存。”他们赞美耶和华的时候，众人都大声呼喊，因为耶和华殿的根基已经奠定。很多年老的祭司、利未人和族长，曾经见过先前的殿，眼见这殿的根基再次奠立，就放声大哭，但也有许多人高声欢呼，以致分不清到底是欢呼声或哭声。因为众人都大声呼喊，这声音在很远的地方也可以听见。

他们应当求问神的训诲和法度；他们若不照着这些准则说话，就见不到曙光。

于是以色列众人都出来，从但到别是巴，以及基列地的众人，都在米斯巴耶和华面前聚集起来如同一人。

他们到了泉门，就登上大卫城的台阶，随着城墙的升势，经过大卫的宫殿，走到东边的水门。

于是众民出去，把树枝带回来，各人在自己的房顶上，在院子里，神的院中，水门的广场，或是在以法莲门的广场搭棚。

“你们要谨记我仆人摩西的律法，就是我在何烈山为以色列众人所吩咐他的律例和典章。

因此，我差派先知、智慧人和经学家到你们那里；有些你们要杀害又钉在十字架上，有些你们要在会堂里鞭打，从一个城赶逐到另一个城。

你们怎可以说：“我们是智慧人，我们有耶和华的律法”呢？事实上，经学家虚假的笔已把律法变成谎言了。智慧人必蒙羞，惊惶失措。看哪！他们弃绝了耶和华的话，他们还有什么智慧呢？

于是众人都起来如同一人，说：“我们当中谁都不回自己的帐棚，谁都不回自己的家。

耶稣说：“所以，每一个作天国门徒的经学家，就像家主从宝库中拿出新和旧的东西来。”

“虚伪的经学家和法利赛人哪，你们有祸了！你们在人面前关了天国的门，自己不进去，连正要进去的人，你们也不准他们进去。﹙有些抄本有第

“经学家和法利赛人坐在摩西的座位上，

经学家以斯拉站在为这事特制的木台上；站在他右边的，有玛他提雅、示玛、亚奈雅、乌利亚、希勒家和玛西雅；站在他左边的，有毗大雅、米沙利、玛基雅、哈顺、哈拔大拿、撒迦利亚和米书兰。以斯拉在众人眼前展开那书卷；他高高地站在众民以上，他把书卷展开，众民就站起来。以斯拉称颂耶和华至大的神，众民举手应声说：“阿们！阿们！”然后跪下，脸伏在地，敬拜耶和华。然后利未人耶书亚、巴尼、示利比、雅悯、亚谷、沙比太、荷第雅、玛西雅、基利他、亚撒利雅、约撒拔、哈难和毗莱雅就教导他们明白律法。众人一直站在原处聆听。他们宣读神的律法，把意义清楚翻译出来，使众民明白所宣读的。省长尼希米和祭司兼经学家以斯拉，以及教导人民明白律法的利未人对众民说：“今天是耶和华你们的神的圣日，你们不要悲哀哭泣。”因为众人听见律法书上的话，都哭了。
