So my God put it into my heart to assemble the nobles, the officials and the common people for registration by families. I found the genealogical record of those who had been the first to return. This is what I found written there:

So my God gave me the idea and encouraged me to gather the people together. He also encouraged me to gather the nobles and officials together with them. He wanted me to list them by families. I found the family history of those who had been the first to return. Here is what I found written in it.

So my God gave me the idea to call together all the nobles and leaders of the city, along with the ordinary citizens, for registration. I had found the genealogical record of those who had first returned to Judah. This is what was written there:

My God placed it on my heart to gather the leaders, the officials, and the ordinary people so they could be enrolled on the basis of genealogy. I found the genealogical records of those who had formerly returned. Here is what I found written in that record:

My God put into my heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be listed by genealogy. I found the book of the genealogy of those who came up at the first, and I found this written in it:

這三家的人在族譜之中尋查自己的譜系，卻尋不着，因此算為不潔，不准供祭司的職任。

我的神啊，多比雅、參巴拉、女先知挪亞底，和其餘的先知要叫我懼怕，求你記念他們所行的這些事。

然而，我今日成了何等人，是蒙神的恩才成的，並且他所賜我的恩不是徒然的。我比眾使徒格外勞苦；這原不是我，乃是神的恩與我同在。

並不是我們憑自己能承擔甚麼事；我們所能承擔的，乃是出於神。

我也為此勞苦，照着他在我裏面運用的大能盡心竭力。

以斯拉說：「耶和華－我們列祖的神是應當稱頌的！因他使王起這心意修飾耶路撒冷耶和華的殿，

我的神啊，求你記念我為這百姓所行的一切事，施恩與我。

以色列人都按家譜計算，寫在以色列諸王記上。猶大人因犯罪就被擄到巴比倫。先從巴比倫回來，住在自己地業城邑中的有以色列人、祭司、利未人、尼提寧的首領。住在耶路撒冷的有猶大人、便雅憫人、以法蓮人、瑪拿西人。猶大兒子法勒斯的子孫中有烏太。烏太是亞米忽的兒子；亞米忽是暗利的兒子；暗利是音利的兒子；音利是巴尼的兒子。示羅的子孫中有長子亞帥雅和他的眾子。謝拉的子孫中有耶烏利和他的弟兄，共六百九十人。便雅憫人中有哈西努的曾孫、何達威雅的孫子、米書蘭的兒子撒路，又有耶羅罕的兒子伊比尼雅，米基立的孫子、烏西的兒子以拉，伊比尼雅的曾孫、流珥的孫子、示法提雅的兒子米書蘭，和他們的族弟兄，按着家譜計算共有九百五十六名。這些人都是他們的族長。

我親愛的弟兄們，不要看錯了。

這樣看來，我親愛的弟兄，你們既是常順服的，不但我在你們那裏，就是我如今不在你們那裏，更是順服的，就當恐懼戰兢做成你們得救的工夫。因為你們立志行事都是神在你們心裏運行，為要成就他的美意。
