He had been hired to intimidate me so that I would commit a sin by doing this, and then they would give me a bad name to discredit me.

They had hired him to scare me. They wanted me to commit a sin by doing what he said. That would give me a bad name in the community. People would find fault with me and my work.

For this purpose he was hired, that I should be afraid and act in this way and sin, and so they could give me a bad name in order to taunt me.

To flatter friends is to lay a trap for their feet.

So I advise these younger widows to marry again, have children, and take care of their own homes. Then the enemy will not be able to say anything against them.

Then you will know that I am the Lord.You have discouraged the righteous with your lies, but I didn’t want them to be sad. And you have encouraged the wicked by promising them life, even though they continue in their sins.Because of all this, you will no longer talk of seeing visions that you never saw, nor will you make predictions. For I will rescue my people from your grasp. Then you will know that I am the Lord.”

Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold.

A good reputation is more valuable than costly perfume. And the day you die is better than the day you are born.

“ But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars— their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

But I will continue doing what I have always done. This will undercut those who are looking for an opportunity to boast that their work is just like ours.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self discipline.

“ Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
