They had hired him to scare me. They wanted me to commit a sin by doing what he said. That would give me a bad name in the community. People would find fault with me and my work.

For this purpose he was hired, that I should be afraid and act in this way and sin, and so they could give me a bad name in order to taunt me.

They were hoping to intimidate me and make me sin. Then they would be able to accuse and discredit me.

A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.

A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth.

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars— they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about.

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self- discipline.

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent.Finally these men said,“ We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God.”

Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words.

For where is the wrath of the oppressor?

“ Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them.

They produced false witnesses, who testified,“ This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law.
