But the earlier governors— those preceding me— placed a heavy burden on the people and took forty shekels of silver from them in addition to food and wine. Their assistants also lorded it over the people. But out of reverence for God I did not act like that.

But there had been governors before me. They had put a heavy load on the people. They had taken a pound of silver from each of them. They had also taken food and wine from them. Their officials had acted like high and mighty rulers over them. But because of my great respect for God, I didn’t act like that.

The former governors who were before me laid heavy burdens on the people and took from them for their daily ration forty shekels of silver. Even their servants lorded it over the people. But I did not do so, because of the fear of God.

The former governors, in contrast, had laid heavy burdens on the people, demanding a daily ration of food and wine, besides forty pieces of silver. Even their assistants took advantage of the people. But because I feared God, I did not act that way.

我又说：“你们做的这事不对！你们行事不是应该敬畏我们的上帝，免得列国我们的仇敌毁谤我们吗？

耶和华喜爱敬畏他和盼望他慈爱的人。

因慈爱和信实，罪孽得赎；敬畏耶和华的，远离恶事。

因上帝降的灾祸使我恐惧，因他的威严，我什么都不能。

这些事都已听见了，结论就是：敬畏上帝，谨守他的诫命，这是人当尽的本分。因为人所做的事，连一切隐藏的事，无论是善是恶，上帝都必审问。

我在你们那里有缺乏的时候，并没有连累你们一个人，因为我所缺乏的，那些从马其顿来的弟兄都补足了。我向来凡事谨慎，将来也必谨慎，总不要连累你们。

你们当中有谁是敬畏耶和华，听从他仆人的话语，却行在黑暗中，没有亮光的，当倚靠耶和华的名，仰赖自己的上帝。

你们若只请你弟兄的安，有什么比别人强呢？就是外邦人不也是这样做吗？

甚至在未烧脂肪之前，祭司的仆人就来对献祭的人说：“把肉给祭司，让他烤吧。他不要拿你煮过的肉，要生的。”献祭的人若说：“他们必须先烧脂肪，然后你才可以随意拿。”仆人就说：“不，你立刻给我，不然我就要抢了。”这些年轻人的罪在耶和华面前非常严重，因为这些人藐视耶和华的祭物。

除了我不曾连累你们这一件事，你们还有什么事不及别的教会呢？这不公平之处，请你们饶恕我吧。

君王若听谎言，他一切臣仆都是奸恶。

哈利路亚！敬畏耶和华，甚喜爱他命令的，这人有福了！

你们的粮食和葡萄园所出产的，他必征收十分之一给他的官员和臣仆，

他说：“某城有一个官，不惧怕上帝，也不尊重人。那城里有个寡妇，常到他那里，说：‘我有一个冤家，求你给我伸冤。’他很久不受理，后来心里说：‘我虽不惧怕上帝，也不尊重人，
