But the earlier governors— those preceding me— placed a heavy burden on the people and took forty shekels of silver from them in addition to food and wine. Their assistants also lorded it over the people. But out of reverence for God I did not act like that.

But there had been governors before me. They had put a heavy load on the people. They had taken a pound of silver from each of them. They had also taken food and wine from them. Their officials had acted like high and mighty rulers over them. But because of my great respect for God, I didn’t act like that.

The former governors who were before me laid heavy burdens on the people and took from them for their daily ration forty shekels of silver. Even their servants lorded it over the people. But I did not do so, because of the fear of God.

我又說：「你們所行的不善！你們行事不當敬畏我們的神嗎？不然，難免我們的仇敵外邦人毀謗我們。

耶和華喜愛敬畏他和盼望他慈愛的人。

因憐憫誠實，罪孽得贖；敬畏耶和華的，遠離惡事。

因神降的災禍使我恐懼；因他的威嚴，我不能妄為。

這些事都已聽見了，總意就是：敬畏神，謹守他的誡命，這是人所當盡的本分。因為人所做的事，連一切隱藏的事，無論是善是惡，神都必審問。

我在你們那裏缺乏的時候，並沒有累着你們一個人；因我所缺乏的，那從馬其頓來的弟兄們都補足了。我向來凡事謹守，後來也必謹守，總不至於累着你們。

你們中間誰是敬畏耶和華、聽從他僕人之話的？這人行在暗中，沒有亮光。當倚靠耶和華的名，仗賴自己的神。

你們若單請你弟兄的安，比人有甚麼長處呢？就是外邦人不也是這樣行嗎？

又在未燒脂油以前，祭司的僕人就來對獻祭的人說：「將肉給祭司，叫他烤吧。他不要煮過的，要生的。」獻祭的人若說：「必須先燒脂油，然後你可以隨意取肉。」僕人就說：「你立時給我，不然我便搶去。」如此，這二少年人的罪在耶和華面前甚重了，因為他們藐視耶和華的祭物。

除了我不累着你們這一件事，你們還有甚麼事不及別的教會呢？這不公之處，求你們饒恕我吧。

君王若聽謊言，他一切臣僕都是奸惡。

你們要讚美耶和華！敬畏耶和華，甚喜愛他命令的，這人便為有福！

你們的糧食和葡萄園所出的，他必取十分之一給他的太監和臣僕；

說：「某城裏有一個官，不懼怕神，也不尊重世人。那城裏有個寡婦，常到他那裏，說：『我有一個對頭，求你給我伸冤。』他多日不准，後來心裏說：『我雖不懼怕神，也不尊重世人，
