自王命我為猶大地之方伯、從亞達薛西王二十年、至三十二年、共十二年、我與同族未食方伯之祿、

Moreover, from the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, until his thirty-second year— twelve years— neither I nor my brothers ate the food allotted to the governor.

And that’s not all. I was appointed as governor of Judah in the 20th year that Artaxerxes was king of Persia. I remained in that position until his 32nd year. During those 12 years, I and my relatives didn’t eat the food that was provided for my table.

Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king, twelve years, neither I nor my brothers ate the food allowance of the governor.

For the entire twelve years that I was governor of Judah— from the twentieth year to the thirty second year of the reign of King Artaxerxes— neither I nor my officials drew on our official food allowance.

Furthermore, from the day King Artaxerxes appointed me to be their governor in the land of Judah— from the twentieth year until his thirty-second year, twelve years— I and my associates never ate from the food allotted to the governor.

Furthermore, since the day that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year to the thirty second year of King Artaxerxes, for twelve years, neither I nor my kinsmen have eaten the governor’s food allowance.

Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year until the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes, twelve years, neither I nor my brothers ate the governor’s provisions.

Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.

Furthermore, from the day King Artaxerxes appointed me to be their governor in the land of Judah— from the twentieth year until his thirty-second year, 12 years— I and my associates never ate from the food allotted to the governor.

From the day that I was appointed governor in the land of Judah, that is, from the twentieth year until the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes– twelve years in all– neither I nor my relatives ate the food allotted to the governor.

這事發生的時候，我不在耶路撒冷；因為在巴比倫王亞達薛西三十二年，我回到王那裡去；過了一段時期，我又向王告了假，

也沒有白吃過誰的飯，反而辛苦勞碌，晝夜作工，免得加重你們任何一人的負擔。這不是因為我們沒有權利，而是要給你們作榜樣，好讓你們效法我們。

亞達薛西王二十年尼散月，王面前擺上了酒席，我拿酒來奉給王。我在他面前素來沒有露出愁容。

難道我們沒有權利吃喝嗎？難道我們沒有權利，像其餘的使徒、主的弟兄和磯法一樣，帶著信主的妻子往來嗎？難道只有我和巴拿巴沒有權利不作工嗎？有誰當兵要自備糧餉呢？有誰栽種葡萄園，不吃園裡的果子呢？有誰牧養羊群，不喝羊的奶呢？我說這話，不是照著人的意見，律法不也是這樣說嗎？就在摩西的律法上記著說：“牛踹穀的時候，不可籠住牠的嘴。”難道神關心的只是牛嗎？這不全是為我們說的嗎？當然是為我們說的，因為耕種的應當存著希望去耕種，收割的也應當存著希望去分享收穫。我們既然在你們中間撒了屬靈的種子，如果要從你們那裡收穫一些物質的供應，這算是過分嗎？如果別人在你們身上享有這種權利，我們不是更可以享有嗎？然而我們沒有用過這種權利，反而凡事容忍，免得我們攔阻了基督的福音。難道你們不知道，在聖殿供職的，就吃殿中的供物；侍候祭壇的，就分領壇上的祭物嗎？主也曾這樣吩咐，叫傳福音的人靠福音為生。但這種權利，我一點也沒有用過。我寫這些話，並不是想叫人這樣待我，因為我寧可死，也不讓人使我所誇耀的落了空。

那麼，我的賞賜是甚麼呢？就是我傳福音時，叫人免費得著福音。這樣，我就沒有用過傳福音可以享有的權利了。

因此，你們也當納稅，因為他們是神的差役，專責處理這事的。你們要向各人清還所欠的；應當納稅的，就要給他納稅；應當進貢的，就給他進貢；應當敬畏的，就敬畏他；應當尊敬的，就尊敬他。

現在奏知大王：如果這城建成，牆垣築好，他們就不再繳稅、進貢和納糧，王的國庫收入必定受損。現在我們既食王家的鹽，不該見王受剝奪，因此上奏稟告王，
