Nevertheless we have not used this right, but endure all things lest we hinder the gospel of Christ.Do you not know that those who minister the holy things eat of the things of the temple, and those who serve at the altar partake of the offerings of the altar?Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.But I have used none of these things, nor have I written these things that it should be done so to me; for it would be better for me to die than that anyone should make my boasting void.For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship.What is my reward then? That when I preach the gospel, I may present the gospel of Christ without charge, that I may not abuse my authority in the gospel.

If he has exacted usury Or taken increase— Shall he then live? He shall not live! If he has done any of these abominations, He shall surely die; His blood shall be upon him.

He who does not put out his money at usury, Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.

If he has not exacted usury Nor taken any increase, But has withdrawn his hand from iniquity And executed true judgment between man and man;

And he said to them,“ Collect no more than what is appointed for you.”Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying,“ And what shall we do?” So he said to them,“ Do not intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.”
