Next to them, repairs were made by men from Gibeon and Mizpah— Melatiah of Gibeon and Jadon of Meronoth— places under the authority of the governor of Trans-Euphrates.

Next to them, some men from Gibeon and Mizpah made repairs. They included Melatiah from Gibeon and Jadon from Meronoth. Those places were under the authority of the governor of the land west of the Euphrates River.

And next to them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon and of Mizpah, the seat of the governor of the province Beyond the River.

Next to them were Melatiah from Gibeon, Jadon from Meronoth, people from Gibeon, and people from Mizpah, the headquarters of the governor of the province west of the Euphrates River.

Adjacent to them worked Melatiah the Gibeonite and Jadon the Meronothite, who were men of Gibeon and Mizpah. These towns were under the jurisdiction of the governor of Trans-Euphrates.

Next to them, Melatiah the Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon and of Mizpah, repaired the residence of the governor beyond the River.

基遍人原來不是以色列人，乃是亞摩利人中剩下來的；以色列人曾經和他們有誓約；掃羅卻對以色列人和猶大人生了妒愛熱情，想法子要擊殺基遍人。大衛王把基遍人召了來，問他們說：

但是基遍的居民聽見了約書亞向耶利哥和艾城所行的事，他們也就設了詭計，自備乾糧，拿舊口袋和破裂修補的舊皮酒袋給驢馱着，將舊而補過的鞋穿在腳上，把舊的衣服穿在身上；他們做乾糧的餅都乾硬破碎。他們到了吉甲營中見約書亞，對他和以色列人說：『我們是從遠地來的；現在求你和我們立約。』以色列人對這些希未人說：『只怕你們是住在我們中間的，那我們怎能和你們立約呢？』他們對約書亞說：『我們願做你的僕人。』約書亞問他們說：『你們是甚麼人？是從哪裏來的？』他們對他說：『你僕人是為了永恆主你的上帝至大之名就從很遠之地而來的；因為我們聽見了他的名聲：他在埃及所行的一切事，以及他對約但河東邊的亞摩利人兩個王、對希實本王西宏、對在亞斯他錄的巴珊王噩——所行一切的事。因此、我們的長老和我們那地所有的居民對我們說：「你們手裏要帶着路上用的乾糧、去迎接以色列人，對他們說：我們願做你們的僕人；現在求你們和我們立約。我們出來、要到你們這裏來的日子、從家裏帶出來自備做乾糧的這餅還是熱的；現在你看，都乾硬破碎了。這些皮酒袋、我們盛酒時還是新的；你看，都破裂了；我們這些衣裳和鞋、因為道路很長，也都破舊了。」』以色列人取了他們一些乾糧，並沒有求問永恆主怎樣吩咐。於是約書亞竟跟他們講和，與他們立約，容他們活着；會眾的首領也向他們起誓。以色列人和他們立約之後、過了三天、才聽說他們是自己的近鄰，是住在自己中間的。以色列人就往前行，第三天到了他們的城市；他們的城市就是基遍、基非拉、比錄、基列耶琳。但是以色列人不擊殺他們，因為會眾的首領曾經指着永恆主以色列的上帝向他們起了誓；全會眾就向首領們發怨言。眾首領對全會眾說：『我們曾經指着永恆主以色列的上帝向他們起了誓；現在我們不能觸害他們。我們要這樣處置他們，容他們活着，免得有上帝的震怒因我們向他們起的誓、而臨到我們身上。』首領們對會眾說：『要容他們活着。』於是他們給全會眾做撿柴打水的人，正如首領們所說到他們的。約書亞把他們召了來，告訴他們說：『為甚麼你們哄騙我們說：「我們離你們很遠」，其實你們卻是住在我們中間的？現在你們是被咒詛的了；你們中間必不斷有人做奴隸、給我的上帝的殿做撿柴打水的人。』他們回答約書亞說：『因為有人確實告訴你僕人說永恆主你的上帝曾經吩咐他僕人摩西、把這遍地賜給你們，並把這地所有的居民都從你們面前消滅掉，故此我們為了你們的緣故、很怕喪命，就行了這事了。現在你看，我們都在你手中；你看怎樣處置我們為好為對，就怎樣行好啦。』於是約書亞這樣處置他們，援救他們脫離以色列人的手，以色列人就沒有殺戮他們。當那一天約書亞使他們給會眾和永恆主的祭壇、在他所要選擇的地方、做撿柴打水的人；到今日還是如此。

其次是米斯巴的區長耶書亞的兒子以謝修造了另一段，對着軍械庫的上坡、城牆的拐角處。

我又對王說：『王若認為滿意，請給我詔書、通知大河以西那邊的巡撫准我經過，直到我抵達了猶大；賜詔書通知看守王園林的亞薩，叫他給我木料、作附屬於殿的營樓之門的橫梁、作城牆、和我自己要進住的房屋的用處。』王就賜給我所求的，因為我的上帝至善的手幫助了我。

於是亞撒王率領了猶大眾人，將巴沙修造拉瑪所用的石頭和木料都運了走；去修造迦巴和米斯巴。
