The next section was repaired by the men of Tekoa, but their nobles would not put their shoulders to the work under their supervisors.

耶和華對我說：「你要做個木軛，用繩索套在自己頸上。

我想：「他們貧窮、愚昧，不明白他們上帝耶和華的道，也不知道祂的法令。我要找他們的首領說話，因為這些首領明白耶和華的道，知道他們上帝的法令。」然而，他們卻一致違背耶和華的律法，不服從祂的法令。

現在你們為什麼要試探上帝，把我們祖先和我們不能負的重擔強加在這些門徒身上？

我照耶和華的吩咐對猶大王西底迦說：「你們要負巴比倫王的軛，臣服於他和他的人民，這樣你們就可存活。

我心柔和謙卑，你們要負我的軛，向我學習，這樣你們的心靈就必得享安息。

你要勸誡那些今世富足的人不要高傲，也不要冀望於靠不住的錢財，要信靠將萬物厚賜給我們享用的上帝。你要勸他們多多行善、慷慨施捨、樂意助人。

萬軍之耶和華說：「那日，我要折斷他們頸上的軛，砍斷他們的鎖鏈，使他們不再受外族人奴役。他們要事奉我——他們的上帝耶和華，聽從我為他們選立來繼承大衛寶座的王。

弟兄姊妹，想想你們蒙召時的情形。按人的標準來衡量，你們當中稱得上有智慧的不多，有能力的不多，出身名門望族的也不多。

猶大王烏西雅、約阿施的兒子以色列王耶羅波安執政期間，大地震前兩年，提哥亞的牧人阿摩司看到了關於以色列的異象。以下是阿摩司的話。
