Then the king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked me,“ How long will your journey take, and when will you get back?” It pleased the king to send me; so I set a time.

這一切事發生的時候、我不在耶路撒冷；因為巴比倫王亞達薛西三十二年我到王那裏去；而在我向王請假的日期終了以後，

自從我奉命作猶大地巡撫的日子以來、從亞達薛西王二十年到三十二年、共十二年、巡撫的俸祿、我和我同職弟兄都沒有喫過。

王問我說：『那麼你要求甚麼？』於是我禱告天上的上帝，

那時他們還未呼求，我就應了；他們還在說話，我就垂聽了。

他們必修造久已頹廢的荒場，建立起先前淒涼之地，重新修造荒廢的城市，代代淒涼的地方。

主啊，願你的耳傾聽你僕人的祈禱，傾聽這些喜愛敬畏你名的僕人的祈禱，使你僕人今日順利，使他在王面前得蒙憐憫。』那時我做王的酒政。

你那些久已頹廢的荒場就必被重建；你必建立起代代拆毁的根基；你必稱為修補城牆破口者，重修毁宅給人居住者。
