But now I said to them,“ You know very well what trouble we are in. Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire. Let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and end this disgrace!”

以後我卻對他們說：『我們所遇見的患難，耶路撒冷怎樣荒廢，它的城門怎樣被火焚燒，你們都看見了：來吧！我們修造耶路撒冷的城牆吧！免得再受恥辱。』

今謂之曰、耶路撒冷荒蕪、其門被燬、處此苦境、爾所目擊、我儕其來、重築耶路撒冷、勿復受辱、

惟謂之曰、耶路撒冷、其地荒蕪、其門被燬、遭此蹂躪、爾所目擊、不如重築城垣、毋為人姍笑。

後、我謂之曰、耶路撒冷荒蕪、邑門被燬、我儕處斯苦境、爾所目睹、不如重建耶路撒冷城垣、免再受恥笑、

Then I said to them,“ You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.”

I said to them,“ You can see the trouble we’re in. Jerusalem has been destroyed. Fire has burned up its gates. Come on. Let’s rebuild the wall of Jerusalem. Then people won’t be ashamed anymore.”

Then I said to them,“ You see the trouble we are in, how Jerusalem lies in ruins with its gates burned. Come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer suffer derision.”

So I said to them,“ You see the trouble we are in. Jerusalem lies in ruins and its gates have been burned. Come, let’s rebuild Jerusalem’s wall, so that we will no longer be a disgrace.”

Then I said to them,“ You see the bad situation we are in, that Jerusalem is desolate and its gates have been burned by fire. Come, let’s rebuild the wall of Jerusalem so that we will no longer be a disgrace.”

Then I said to them,“ You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach.”

Then said I unto them, Ye see the evil case that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.

So I said to them,“ You see the trouble we are in. Jerusalem lies in ruins and its gates have been burned down. Come, let’s rebuild Jerusalem’s wall, so that we will no longer be a disgrace.”

Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we[ are] in, how Jerusalem[ lieth] waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.

Then I said to them,“ You see the problem that we have: Jerusalem is desolate and its gates are burned. Come on! Let’s rebuild the wall of Jerusalem so that this reproach will not continue.”

Then I said to them,“ You see the bad situation that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come, let’s build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we won’t be disgraced.”

“ So I will turn you into a ruin, a mockery in the eyes of the surrounding nations and to all who pass by.

They said to me,“ Things are not going well for those who returned to the province of Judah. They are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem has been torn down, and the gates have been destroyed by fire.”

We are mocked by our neighbors, an object of scorn and derision to those around us.

You have discarded us as refuse and garbage among the nations.“ All our enemies have spoken out against us.

I will make them an object of horror and a symbol of evil to every nation on earth. They will be disgraced and mocked, taunted and cursed, wherever I scatter them.

My heart is breaking over the fate of all the women of Jerusalem.

Consider, Lord, how your servants are disgraced! I carry in my heart the insults of so many people.Your enemies have mocked me, O Lord; they mock your anointed king wherever he goes.

With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees.Say to those with fearful hearts,“ Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.”

O Lord, pay back our neighbors seven times for the scorn they have hurled at you.

Without mercy the Lord has destroyed every home in Israel. In his anger he has broken down the fortress walls of beautiful Jerusalem. He has brought them to the ground, dishonoring the kingdom and its rulers.

“ All right,” Nahash said,“ but only on one condition. I will gouge out the right eye of every one of you as a disgrace to all Israel!”

At that time the prophets Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo prophesied to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem. They prophesied in the name of the God of Israel who was over them.Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jehozadak responded by starting again to rebuild the Temple of God in Jerusalem. And the prophets of God were with them and helped them.

The Lord was determined to destroy the walls of beautiful Jerusalem. He made careful plans for their destruction, then did what he had planned. Therefore, the ramparts and walls have fallen down before him.Jerusalem’s gates have sunk into the ground. He has smashed their locks and bars. Her kings and princes have been exiled to distant lands; her law has ceased to exist. Her prophets receive no more visions from the Lord.

Then Shecaniah son of Jehiel, a descendant of Elam, said to Ezra,“ We have been unfaithful to our God, for we have married these pagan women of the land. But in spite of this there is hope for Israel.Let us now make a covenant with our God to divorce our pagan wives and to send them away with their children. We will follow the advice given by you and by the others who respect the commands of our God. Let it be done according to the Law of God.Get up, for it is your duty to tell us how to proceed in setting things straight. We are behind you, so be strong and take action.”

You let our neighbors mock us. We are an object of scorn and derision to those around us.

you are guilty because of the blood you have shed. You are defiled because of the idols you have made. Your day of destruction has come! You have reached the end of your years. I will make you an object of mockery throughout the world.O infamous city, filled with confusion, you will be mocked by people far and near.
