王回答他们说：‘我实在告诉你们，这些事你们做在我弟兄中一个最小的身上，就是做在我身上了。’

任凭他们咒骂，你却要赐福；他们几时起来就必蒙羞，你的仆人却要欢喜。

那时，摩押王西拨的儿子巴勒起来攻击以色列人，派人去召比珥的儿子巴兰来诅咒你们。但我不愿听巴兰，所以他反而为你们连连祝福。这样，我救了你们脱离他的手。

巴兰唱起诗歌说：“巴勒啊，起来，听；西拨的儿子啊，侧耳听我。

摩押因以色列百姓这么多，非常惧怕。摩押因以色列人的缘故就忧惧。摩押对米甸的长老说：“现在这群人要舔尽我们四围的一切，好像牛舔尽田间的草一样。”那时，西拨的儿子巴勒作摩押王。他派使者往大河附近的毗夺去，到比珥的儿子巴兰的家乡，召巴兰来，说：“看哪，有一群百姓从埃及出来；看哪，他们遮满地面，住在我的对面。现在请你来，为我诅咒这百姓，因为他们比我强大，或许我能打败他们，把他们赶出此地。因为我知道，你为谁祝福，谁就得福；你诅咒谁，谁就受诅咒。”摩押的长老和米甸的长老手里拿着占卜的礼金到巴兰那里，将巴勒的话告诉他。巴兰对他们说：“今晚你们在这里过夜，我必照着耶和华向我说的话给你们答覆。”摩押的官员就在巴兰那里住下。上帝临到巴兰那里，说：“你这里的这些人是谁？”巴兰对上帝说：“摩押王西拨的儿子巴勒送信给我：‘看哪，从埃及出来的百姓遮满了地面，现在请你来，为我诅咒他们，或许我能打败他们，把他们赶走。’”

雅各啊，你的帐棚何等华美！以色列啊，你的帐幕何其华丽！如连绵的山谷，如河畔的园子，如耶和华栽种的沉香树，又如水边的香柏木。水要从他的桶里流出，种子要撒在多水之处。他的王必超越亚甲，他的国必要振兴。上帝领他出埃及，为他有如野牛的角。他要吞灭那敌对他的国，压碎他们的骨头，用箭射透他们。他蹲如公狮，卧如母狮，谁敢惹他？凡为你祝福的，愿他蒙福；凡诅咒你的，愿他受诅咒。”巴勒向巴兰怒气发作，就紧握拳头。巴勒对巴兰说：“我召你来诅咒我的仇敌，看哪，你竟然这三次为他们祝福。

上帝没有诅咒的，我焉能诅咒？耶和华没有怒骂的，我岂能怒骂？我从磐石的巅峰看到他，我从山丘望见他。看哪，这是独居的民，不算在列国中。谁能数点雅各的尘土？谁能计算以色列的尘沙？我愿如正直人之死而死；我愿如正直人之终而终。”巴勒对巴兰说：“你向我做的是什么呢？我带你来诅咒我的仇敌，看哪，你竟为他们祝福。”
