because they had not met the Israelites with food and water but had hired Balaam to call a curse down on them.( Our God, however, turned the curse into a blessing.)

That’s because they hadn’t given the people of Israel food and water. Instead, they had hired Balaam to put a curse on them. But our God turned the curse into a blessing.

我的民哪！你們要追念，摩押王巴勒圖謀過甚麼，比珥的兒子巴蘭又答應了他甚麼，以及你們從什亭到吉甲所發生的事，好使你們知道耶和華公義的作為。”

王要回答他們：‘我實在告訴你們，你們所作的，只要是作在我一個最小的弟兄身上，就是作在我的身上了。’

任憑他們咒詛，只願你賜福；願起來攻擊我的都蒙羞，你的僕人卻要歡喜。

那時摩押王西撥的兒子巴勒起來攻擊以色列人；他派人把比珥的兒子巴蘭召了來，咒詛你們。我不肯聽巴蘭的話，結果他反而一而再祝福你們；這樣，我就救了你們脫離他的手。

巴蘭作歌，說：“巴勒啊，要起來聽；西撥的兒子啊，側耳聽我。

摩押人十分懼怕這民，因為他們眾多；摩押人因以色列人的緣故，十分恐慌。摩押人對米甸的長老說：“現在這群人要吞併我們四周的一切，好像牛吞吃田間的草一樣。”那時西撥的兒子巴勒，作摩押王；他就派使者到比珥的兒子巴蘭那裡去，就是到大河附近的毗奪，亞捫人的地那裡，去叫巴蘭來，說：“你看，有一個民族從埃及出來，遮滿了全地，如今住在我的對面。現在請你來，替我咒詛這民，因為他們比我強盛，或者我能夠擊敗他們，把他們從這地趕出去；因為我知道你給誰祝福，誰就得福；你咒詛誰，誰就受咒詛。”摩押的長老和米甸的長老，手裡帶著占卜的禮金去了；他們到了巴蘭那裡，把巴勒的話告訴他。巴蘭對他們說：“今夜你們留在這裡，我必照著耶和華吩咐我的話答覆你們。”於是，摩押的領袖就與巴蘭同住。神來到巴蘭那裡，說：“與你在一起的這些人是誰？”巴蘭對神說：“是摩押王西撥的兒子巴勒派到我這裡來的人，他們說：‘你看，從埃及出來的民族，遮滿了全地；現在請你來，替我咒詛他們，或者我能夠戰勝他們，把他們趕走。’”

雅各啊，你的會幕多麼佳美；以色列啊，你的帳幕多麼美好！像擴展的棕林，如河邊的園子，似耶和華栽種的沉香樹，又像水旁的香柏樹。必有水從他的桶中流出來，他的後裔必在多水之處；他的王必超過亞甲，他的國度必被高舉。領他出埃及的神，對他好像野牛的角；他要吞吃敵國，打碎他們的骨頭，用箭射透他們。他蹲伏躺下，好像公獅，又像母獅，誰敢使他起立呢？給你祝福的，願他蒙福；咒詛你的，願他受咒詛。’”巴勒向巴蘭生氣，就拍起手；巴勒對巴蘭說：“我請你來咒詛我的敵人，如今你反倒祝福他們這三次。

神沒有咒詛的，我怎能咒詛呢？耶和華沒有咒罵的，我怎能咒罵呢？我從高峰觀看他們，從山上眺望他們；這是獨居的民族，不列在萬國之中。誰能數算雅各的灰塵？誰能計算以色列的四分之一呢？願我的死像正直人的死，願我之終如正直人之終。”巴勒對巴蘭說：“你向我作的是甚麼事呢？我領你來咒詛我的仇敵，你反倒給他們祝福。”
