because they had not met the Israelites with food and water but had hired Balaam to call a curse down on them.( Our God, however, turned the curse into a blessing.)

That’s because they hadn’t given the people of Israel food and water. Instead, they had hired Balaam to put a curse on them. But our God turned the curse into a blessing.

我的民哪！你们要追念，摩押王巴勒图谋过什么，比珥的儿子巴兰又答应了他什么，以及你们从什亭到吉甲所发生的事，好使你们知道耶和华公义的作为。”

王要回答他们：‘我实在告诉你们，你们所作的，只要是作在我一个最小的弟兄身上，就是作在我的身上了。’

任凭他们咒诅，只愿你赐福；愿起来攻击我的都蒙羞，你的仆人却要欢喜。

那时摩押王西拨的儿子巴勒起来攻击以色列人；他派人把比珥的儿子巴兰召了来，咒诅你们。我不肯听巴兰的话，结果他反而一而再祝福你们；这样，我就救了你们脱离他的手。

巴兰作歌，说：“巴勒啊，要起来听；西拨的儿子啊，侧耳听我。

摩押人十分惧怕这民，因为他们众多；摩押人因以色列人的缘故，十分恐慌。摩押人对米甸的长老说：“现在这群人要吞并我们四周的一切，好像牛吞吃田间的草一样。”那时西拨的儿子巴勒，作摩押王；他就派使者到比珥的儿子巴兰那里去，就是到大河附近的毗夺，亚扪人的地那里，去叫巴兰来，说：“你看，有一个民族从埃及出来，遮满了全地，如今住在我的对面。现在请你来，替我咒诅这民，因为他们比我强盛，或者我能够击败他们，把他们从这地赶出去；因为我知道你给谁祝福，谁就得福；你咒诅谁，谁就受咒诅。”摩押的长老和米甸的长老，手里带着占卜的礼金去了；他们到了巴兰那里，把巴勒的话告诉他。巴兰对他们说：“今夜你们留在这里，我必照着耶和华吩咐我的话答覆你们。”于是，摩押的领袖就与巴兰同住。神来到巴兰那里，说：“与你在一起的这些人是谁？”巴兰对神说：“是摩押王西拨的儿子巴勒派到我这里来的人，他们说：‘你看，从埃及出来的民族，遮满了全地；现在请你来，替我咒诅他们，或者我能够战胜他们，把他们赶走。’”

雅各啊，你的会幕多么佳美；以色列啊，你的帐幕多么美好！像扩展的棕林，如河边的园子，似耶和华栽种的沉香树，又像水旁的香柏树。必有水从他的桶中流出来，他的后裔必在多水之处；他的王必超过亚甲，他的国度必被高举。领他出埃及的神，对他好像野牛的角；他要吞吃敌国，打碎他们的骨头，用箭射透他们。他蹲伏躺下，好像公狮，又像母狮，谁敢使他起立呢？给你祝福的，愿他蒙福；咒诅你的，愿他受咒诅。’”巴勒向巴兰生气，就拍起手；巴勒对巴兰说：“我请你来咒诅我的敌人，如今你反倒祝福他们这三次。

神没有咒诅的，我怎能咒诅呢？耶和华没有咒骂的，我怎能咒骂呢？我从高峰观看他们，从山上眺望他们；这是独居的民族，不列在万国之中。谁能数算雅各的灰尘？谁能计算以色列的四分之一呢？愿我的死像正直人的死，愿我之终如正直人之终。”巴勒对巴兰说：“你向我作的是什么事呢？我领你来咒诅我的仇敌，你反倒给他们祝福。”
