因為自古以來，在各城裡都有人宣講摩西，每逢安息日在各會堂裡都有人誦讀他的書。」

有關摩押的默示：啊，一夜之間，摩押的亞珥毀滅了，滅亡了！啊，一夜之間，摩押的基珥毀滅了，滅亡了！摩押人上神廟、迪本人上高所去哭泣；摩押人為尼波和米底巴哀號；各人頭上光禿，鬍鬚剃盡。在街上，他們束上麻布；在屋頂上、在廣場上，人人哀號，流淚哭泣。希實本和以利亞利哀鳴，他們的聲音遠到雅匝也能聽見。因此摩押的士兵大聲喊叫，心驚膽戰。我的心為摩押哀鳴，它的逃亡者遠至瑣珥和伊基拉-施利施亞；他們哭泣著上魯希斜坡，在何羅念的路上因敗亡而發出哀聲。寧林的水涸竭，青草枯乾，嫩草絕跡，青綠之物都沒有了。因此，他們把所賺得的和所積蓄的財富，都運過柳樹溪。啊！哀聲環繞摩押的四境，哀號遠至以基蓮，哀號遠至比珥-以琳！迪門的水充滿了血，但我還要讓更多的災難臨到迪門，讓獅子臨到摩押的幸存者和那地的餘剩之民。

迦巴勒、亞捫和亞瑪力人，非利士與提爾的居民；亞述也與他們聯合，作羅得子孫的左膀右臂。細拉求你對待他們，如同對待米甸，如同在基順溪流對待西西拉和耶賓——

你們要查考和閱讀耶和華的書卷：這些動物無一缺失，無一沒有伴偶，因為耶和華的口已經吩咐了，他的靈招聚了牠們。

誦讀了律法和先知書以後，會堂主管們派人來對他們說：「各位兄弟，如果有什麼鼓勵民眾的話，就請說吧。」

耶穌來到拿撒勒，就是他長大的地方。在安息日那天，他照自己的習慣進了會堂，站起來要誦讀經文。有人就把先知以賽亞的書遞給他。他展開書卷，找到一處，那裡寫道：「主的靈在我身上，因為他膏立我去向貧窮的人傳福音，他差派我去宣告：被擄的得釋放，瞎眼的得看見，讓受欺壓的得自由，宣告主所悅納的禧年。」
