At that time men were appointed to be in charge of the storerooms for the contributions, firstfruits and tithes. From the fields around the towns they were to bring into the storerooms the portions required by the Law for the priests and the Levites, for Judah was pleased with the ministering priests and Levites.

At that time some men were put in charge of the storerooms. That’s where all the gifts the people brought were placed. Those gifts included the first shares of their crops. They also included a tenth of everything the Law required. Crops were harvested from the fields around the towns. The people had to bring the shares of those crops that were required by the Law. They gave them to the priests and Levites. That’s because the people of Judah were pleased with the priests and Levites who were serving God.

Then Hezekiah commanded to prepare chambers in the house of the LORD; and they prepared[ them],And brought in the offerings and the tithes and the dedicated[ things] faithfully: over which Cononiah the Levite[ was] ruler, and Shimei his brother[ was] the next.And Jehiel, and Azaziah, and Nahath, and Asahel, and Jerimoth, and Jozabad, and Eliel, and Ismachiah, and Mahath, and Benaiah,[ were] overseers under the hand of Cononiah and Shimei his brother, at the commandment of Hezekiah the king, and Azariah the ruler of the house of God.

And[ that] we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our tillage.And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the offering of the corn, of the new wine, and the oil, unto the chambers, where[ are] the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the porters, and the singers: and we will not forsake the house of our God.

Blessed[ is] the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

[ As concerning] the sons of Laadan; the sons of the Gershonite Laadan, chief fathers,[ even] of Laadan the Gershonite,[ were] Jehieli.The sons of Jehieli; Zetham, and Joel his brother,[ which were] over the treasures of the house of the LORD.Of the Amramites,[ and] the Izharites, the Hebronites,[ and] the Uzzielites:And Shebuel the son of Gershom, the son of Moses,[ was] ruler of the treasures.And his brethren by Eliezer; Rehabiah his son, and Jeshaiah his son, and Joram his son, and Zichri his son, and Shelomith his son.Which Shelomith and his brethren[ were] over all the treasures of the dedicated things, which David the king, and the chief fathers, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the host, had dedicated.

This[ is it] that[ belongeth] unto the Levites: from twenty and five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service of the tabernacle of the congregation:And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the service[ thereof], and shall serve no more:

For these Levites, the four chief porters, were in[ their] set office, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.

And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy[ place]:( for all the priests[ that were] present were sanctified,[ and] did not[ then] wait by course:Also the Levites[ which were] the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren,[ being] arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:)

And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God,[ was] allied unto Tobiah:And he had prepared for him a great chamber, where aforetime they laid the meat offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded[ to be given] to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the offerings of the priests.

And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall wait on their priest’s office: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

Or ministry,[ let us wait] on[ our] ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew[ their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary;[ and] they shall walk, and not faint.

And they burn unto the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: the shewbread also[ set they in order] upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but ye have forsaken him.And, behold, God himself[ is] with us for[ our] captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.

Because their office[ was] to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;
