These were reckoned by genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their office of trust.So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of Jehovah, even the house of the tent, by wards.On the four sides were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south.And their brethren, in their villages, were to come in every seven days from time to time to be with them:for the four chief porters, who were Levites, were in an office of trust, and were over the chambers and over the treasuries in the house of God.And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge thereof was upon them; and to them pertained the opening thereof morning by morning.And certain of them had charge of the vessels of service; for by count were these brought in and by count were these taken out.Some of them also were appointed over the furniture, and over all the vessels of the sanctuary, and over the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices.And some of the sons of the priests prepared the confection of the spices.And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the first- born of Shallum the Korahite, had the office of trust over the things that were baked in pans.And some of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the showbread, to prepare it every sabbath.

And I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah; for they were counted faithful, and their business was to distribute unto their brethren.

Then stood up upon the stairs of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani, and cried with a loud voice unto Jehovah their God.Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, Stand up and bless Jehovah your God from everlasting to everlasting; and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.

Moreover David and the captains of the host set apart for the service certain of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of them that did the work according to their service was:of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asharelah, the sons of Asaph, under the hand of Asaph, who prophesied after the order of the king.Of Jeduthun; the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun with the harp, who prophesied in giving thanks and praising Jehovah.Of Heman; the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti- ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth.All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of Jehovah, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God; Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman being under the order of the king.

After him repaired the Levites, Rehum the son of Bani. Next unto him repaired Hashabiah, the ruler of half the district of Keilah, for his district.

For in the days of David and Asaph of old there was a chief of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving unto God.
