Now the leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem. The rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of every ten of them to live in Jerusalem, the holy city, while the remaining nine were to stay in their own towns.

For they call themselves after the holy city, And lean on the God of Israel; The Lord of hosts is His name:

All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred and eighty-four.

We cast lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people, for bringing the wood offering into the house of our God, according to our fathers’ houses, at the appointed times year by year, to burn on the altar of the Lord our God as it is written in the Law.

Awake, awake! Put on your strength, O Zion; Put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city! For the uncircumcised and the unclean Shall no longer come to you.

Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple,

and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.

And they cast lots for each gate, the small as well as the great, according to their father’s house.

Now the city was large and spacious, but the people in it were few, and the houses were not rebuilt.Then my God put it into my heart to gather the nobles, the rulers, and the people, that they might be registered by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of those who had come up in the first return, and found written in it:

For thrones are set there for judgment, The thrones of the house of David.

“ If a matter arises which is too hard for you to judge, between degrees of guilt for bloodshed, between one judgment or another, or between one punishment or another, matters of controversy within your gates, then you shall arise and go up to the place which the Lord your God chooses.And you shall come to the priests, the Levites, and to the judge there in those days, and inquire of them; they shall pronounce upon you the sentence of judgment.

but now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah: We will go up against it by lot.We will take ten men out of every hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, a hundred out of every thousand, and a thousand out of every ten thousand, to make provisions for the people, that when they come to Gibeah in Benjamin, they may repay all the vileness that they have done in Israel.”

The lot is cast into the lap, But its every decision is from the Lord.
