And six years thou shalt sow thy land, and shalt gather in the fruits thereof:But the seventh[ year] thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard,[ and] with thy oliveyard.

Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day[ is] the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work[ therein]: it[ is] the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.

In those days saw I in Judah[ some] treading wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all[ manner of] burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified[ against them] in the day wherein they sold victuals.There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing[ is] this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day?Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath.And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and[ some] of my servants set I at the gates,[ that] there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.So the merchants and sellers of all kind of ware lodged without Jerusalem once or twice.Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if ye do[ so] again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no[ more] on the sabbath.And I commanded the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and[ that] they should come[ and] keep the gates, to sanctify the sabbath day. Remember me, O my God,[ concerning] this also, and spare me according to the greatness of thy mercy.

But the seventh day[ is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God:[ in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that[ is] within thy gates:

[ Is] not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.For there were that said, We, our sons, and our daughters,[ are] many: therefore we take up corn[ for them], that we may eat, and live.[ Some] also there were that said, We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy corn, because of the dearth.There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute,[ and that upon] our lands and vineyards.Yet now our flesh[ is] as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and[ some] of our daughters are brought unto bondage[ already]: neither[ is it] in our power[ to redeem them]; for other men have our lands and vineyards.And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, Ye exact usury, every one of his brother. And I set a great assembly against them.And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing[ to answer].Also I said, It[ is] not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies?I likewise,[ and] my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn: I pray you, let us leave off this usury.Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundredth[ part] of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them.Then said they, We will restore[ them], and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise.Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise.

To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths:[ for] as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.

And the LORD spake unto Moses in mount Sinai, saying,Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a sabbath unto the LORD.Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and six years thou shalt prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof;But in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of rest unto the land, a sabbath for the LORD: thou shalt neither sow thy field, nor prune thy vineyard.That which groweth of its own accord of thy harvest thou shalt not reap, neither gather the grapes of thy vine undressed:[ for] it is a year of rest unto the land.And the sabbath of the land shall be meat for you; for thee, and for thy servant, and for thy maid, and for thy hired servant, and for thy stranger that sojourneth with thee,And for thy cattle, and for the beast that[ are] in thy land, shall all the increase thereof be meat.

For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took[ him] by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

And[ this] shall be a statute for ever unto you:[ that] in the seventh month, on the tenth[ day] of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all,[ whether it be] one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you:

If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need,[ in that] which he wanteth.Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.

At the end of[ every] seven years thou shalt make a release.And this[ is] the manner of the release: Every creditor that lendeth[ ought] unto his neighbour shall release[ it]; he shall not exact[ it] of his neighbour, or of his brother; because it is called the LORD’S release.Of a foreigner thou mayest exact[ it again]: but[ that] which is thine with thy brother thine hand shall release;

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

On the first day[ shall be] an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work[ therein].Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it[ is] a solemn assembly;[ and] ye shall do no servile work[ therein].

And in the first day[ there shall be] an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save[ that] which every man must eat, that only may be done of you.

And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day,[ that] it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work[ therein: it shall be] a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.

Thus saith the LORD; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring[ it] in by the gates of Jerusalem;Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work, but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers.

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath[ days]:

Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:But the seventh day[ is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God:[ in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that[ is] within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath,[ from] doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking[ thine own] words:Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken[ it].
