All the men joined the nobles of their people. They made a firm agreement. They made a promise and said they would be cursed if they didn’t keep it. They promised to follow the Law of God. It had been given through Moses, the servant of God. They promised to obey carefully all the commands, rules and laws of the Lord our Lord.

So may such a person be shaken out and emptied!” At this the whole assembly said,“ Amen,” and praised the Lord. And the people did as they had promised.

And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

You are my friends if you do what I command.

The next morning some Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.More than forty men were involved in this plot.They went to the chief priests and the elders and said,“ We have taken a solemn oath not to eat anything until we have killed Paul.Now then, you and the Sanhedrin petition the commander to bring him before you on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about his case. We are ready to kill him before he gets here.”

Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens.

The Lord will have compassion on Jacob; once again he will choose Israel and will settle them in their own land. Foreigners will join them and unite with the descendants of Jacob.

When he arrived and saw what the grace of God had done, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.

All who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, were to be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman.They took an oath to the Lord with loud acclamation, with shouting and with trumpets and horns.

So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left.

“ Cursed is anyone who makes an idol— a thing detestable to the Lord, the work of skilled hands— and sets it up in secret.” Then all the people shall say,“ Amen!”“ Cursed is anyone who dishonors their father or mother.” Then all the people shall say,“ Amen!”“ Cursed is anyone who moves their neighbor’s boundary stone.” Then all the people shall say,“ Amen!”“ Cursed is anyone who leads the blind astray on the road.” Then all the people shall say,“ Amen!”“ Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow.” Then all the people shall say,“ Amen!”“ Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his father’s wife, for he dishonors his father’s bed.” Then all the people shall say,“ Amen!”“ Cursed is anyone who has sexual relations with any animal.” Then all the people shall say,“ Amen!”“ Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.” Then all the people shall say,“ Amen!”“ Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his mother- in- law.” Then all the people shall say,“ Amen!”“ Cursed is anyone who kills their neighbor secretly.” Then all the people shall say,“ Amen!”“ Cursed is anyone who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person.” Then all the people shall say,“ Amen!”“ Cursed is anyone who does not uphold the words of this law by carrying them out.” Then all the people shall say,“ Amen!”

“ Now, Lord, the God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father the promises you made to him when you said,‘ You shall never fail to have a successor to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants are careful in all they do to walk before me according to my law, as you have done.’

You are standing here in order to enter into a covenant with the Lord your God, a covenant the Lord is making with you this day and sealing with an oath,to confirm you this day as his people, that he may be your God as he promised you and as he swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.I am making this covenant, with its oath, not only with you

I rebuked them and called curses down on them. I beat some of the men and pulled out their hair. I made them take an oath in God’s name and said:“ You are not to give your daughters in marriage to their sons, nor are you to take their daughters in marriage for your sons or for yourselves.
