The rest of the people gathered together. They included the priests, the Levites and the men who guarded the gates. They included the musicians and temple servants. They also included all the people who separated themselves from the surrounding nations to obey the Law of God. All these men brought their wives with them. And they brought all their sons and daughters who were old enough to understand what was being agreed to.

“ The rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants, and all who have separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons, their daughters, all who have knowledge and understanding,

Then the rest of the people— the priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, Temple servants, and all who had separated themselves from the pagan people of the land in order to obey the Law of God, together with their wives, sons, daughters, and all who were old enough to understand—

以色列的後裔跟一切外人的子孫分別了出來，他們都站着、承認自己的罪和他們列祖的罪愆。

別跟不信者異類同軛相配偶了：義和不法怎能合夥呢？光對暗有甚麼團契呢？基督對彼列怎能和諧呢？信的同不信的有甚麼共同分兒？上帝的殿堂同偶像怎能符合呢？我們呢、就是永活上帝的殿堂。正如上帝所說的：『我要在他們裏面居住；我要在他們中間往來；我要做他們的上帝；他們必做我的子民。』所以『主說：你們要從他們中間出來，自己分別出來；不潔淨之物別接觸了；我就收納你們』；

眾民聽見了這律法，就使一切雜族眾人跟以色列人分開。

又指着永活的永恆主來起誓，憑忠誠公平公義來起誓，那麼列國就必靠着永恆主而給自己祝福，也必因着他而誇耀了。』

七月一日、祭司以斯拉將律法書帶到一切聽了能明白的男女大眾面前。

你在上帝面前不可隨隨便便開口，你的心也不可急於發言；因為上帝在天上，而你在下地，故此你的話總要少。

這些事作完了，眾首領前來見我，說：『以色列民和祭司跟利未人並沒有從四圍各地別族之民中分別出來，反而仿照他們可憎惡的事去行，像迦南人、赫人、比利洗人、耶布斯人、亞捫人、摩押人、埃及人、亞摩利人所行的。因為他們為自己和他們的兒子娶了這些外族的女子為妻，以致聖別的種類和四圍各地別族之民混雜；而且首領和官長竟在這不忠實的事上也作了罪魁。』

但我對你們說過，你們要取得他們的土地，我要將那地賜給你們去擁為己業，一個流奶與蜜之地：我永恆主是你們的上帝，把你們從萬族之民中分別出來的。

其餘的人民捐獻的有金子二萬達利克，銀子二千彌拿，祭司禮褂六十七件。於是祭司和利未人、守門的、歌唱的、人民中一部分的人當殿役的、以及以色列眾人、都住在自己的市鎮裏。到了七月、以色列人各在自己的市鎮裏。

現在你們要向永恆主你們列祖的上帝認罪，遵行他所喜悅的，自己分別出來、脫離此地別族之民，脫離外籍的女人。』全體大眾都大聲回答說：『你怎麼說，我們便怎麼行就是了。然而人民眾多，又是下大雨節氣，我們不能站在外頭；這又不是一天兩天的事，因為我們在這事上大有罪過了。請為全體大眾設立我們的首領；凡在我們各城市中、娶外籍女人為妻的、都要在指定的日期來；一城一城的長老和它的審判官也要和他們一同來，好使我們的上帝對於這事的烈怒轉離我們。』惟有亞撒黑的兒子約拿單、特瓦的兒子雅哈謝起來反對這事；並且有米書蘭和利未人沙比太支持他們。流亡返回的人就這樣行。祭司以斯拉和一些父系族長的人就按着他們父系的家屬把人分別出來，全都按名字被記錄過。這些人便在十月一日坐下來、查辦這事。到正月一日他們才把所有娶了外籍女人為妻的人查辦完畢。在祭司的子孫中、娶外籍女人為妻被查出的：耶書亞的子孫中有約薩達的兒子和他的弟兄瑪西雅、以利以謝、雅立、基大利。他們便舉手起誓要將他們的妻子離出去；他們的解罪責祭牲、是一隻公綿羊來解除他們的罪責。

於是祭司和利未人、跟人民中一部分的人、住在耶路撒冷和耶路撒冷近郊的、歌唱的、守門的、當殿役的、都住在自己的市鎮裏；以色列眾人也住在自己的市鎮裏。

因為上帝是全地的王；你們要唱沉思默想的詩來讚美。

祭司：有耶書亞家耶大雅的子孫九百七十三人。音麥的子孫一千零五十二人。巴施戶珥的子孫一千二百四十七人。哈琳的子孫一千零一十七人。利未人：有何達威雅的子孫、就是耶書亞和甲篾的子孫、七十四人。歌唱的：亞薩的子孫一百二十八人。守門的：沙龍的子孫、亞特的子孫、達們的子孫、亞谷的子孫、哈底大的子孫、朔拜的子孫，共一百三十九人。當殿役的：有西哈的子孫、哈蘇巴的子孫、答巴俄的子孫、基綠的子孫、西亞的子孫、巴頓的子孫、利巴拿的子孫、哈迦巴的子孫、亞谷的子孫、哈甲的子孫、薩買的子孫、哈難的子孫、吉德的子孫、迦哈的子孫、利亞雅的子孫、利汛的子孫、尼哥大的子孫、迦散的子孫、烏撒的子孫、巴西亞的子孫、比賽的子孫、押拿的子孫、米烏寧的子孫、尼普心的子孫、巴卜的子孫、哈古巴的子孫、哈忽的子孫、巴洗律的子孫、米希大的子孫、哈沙的子孫、巴柯的子孫、西西拉的子孫、答瑪的子孫、尼細亞的子孫、哈提法的子孫。
