報信的回答說：「以色列人在非利士人面前逃跑，百姓中被殺的很多！你的兩個兒子何弗尼和非尼哈也都死了，並且上帝的約櫃已經被擄去了。」他一提到上帝的約櫃，以利就從城門旁自己的位子上往後跌倒，折斷頸項而死，因為他年紀老邁，身體沉重。以利作以色列的士師四十年。以利的媳婦，非尼哈的妻子懷孕將到產期，她聽見上帝的約櫃被擄，公公和丈夫都死了，就曲身生產，極其疼痛。她將要死的時候，旁邊站着的婦人們對她說：「不要怕！你生了男孩了。」她不回答，也不放在心上。她給孩子起名叫以迦博，說：「榮耀離開以色列了！」這是因為上帝的約櫃被擄去，又因為她公公和丈夫都死了。她又說：「榮耀離開以色列，因為上帝的約櫃被擄去了。」

我要聚集那些因無節期而愁煩的人，他們曾遠離你，是你的重擔和羞辱。

他說：「我是希伯來人，我敬畏耶和華，天上的上帝，他創造了滄海和陸地。」

要他們祈求天上的上帝施憐憫，將這奧祕指明，免得但以理和他的同伴與巴比倫其餘的智慧人一同滅亡。

他們這樣回答我們說：『我們是天和地之上帝的僕人，重建多年前所建造的殿，就是以色列一位偉大的君王建造完成的。但因我們祖先惹天上的上帝發怒，上帝把他們交在迦勒底人巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒的手中，他就拆毀這殿，又把百姓擄到巴比倫。

我一聽見這事，就撕裂衣服和外袍，拔了頭髮和鬍鬚，驚惶地坐着。
