报信的回答说：“以色列人在非利士人面前逃跑，民中被杀的甚多！你的两个儿子何弗尼、非尼哈也都死了，并且神的约柜被掳去。”他一提神的约柜，以利就从他的位上往后跌倒，在门旁折断颈项而死；因为他年纪老迈，身体沉重。以利作以色列的士师四十年。以利的儿妇、非尼哈的妻怀孕将到产期，她听见神的约柜被掳去，公公和丈夫都死了，就猛然疼痛，曲身生产；将要死的时候，旁边站着的妇人们对她说：“不要怕！你生了男孩子了。”她却不回答，也不放在心上。她给孩子起名叫以迦博，说：“荣耀离开以色列了！”这是因神的约柜被掳去，又因她公公和丈夫都死了。她又说：“荣耀离开以色列，因为神的约柜被掳去了。”

那些属你、为无大会愁烦、因你担当羞辱的，我必聚集他们。

他说：“我是希伯来人。我敬畏耶和华那创造沧海旱地之天上的神。”

要他们祈求天上的神施怜悯，将这奥秘的事指明，免得但以理和他的同伴与巴比伦其余的哲士一同灭亡。

他们回答说：‘我们是天地之神的仆人，重建前多年所建造的殿，就是以色列的一位大君王建造修成的。只因我们列祖惹天上的神发怒，神把他们交在迦勒底人巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒的手中，他就拆毁这殿，又将百姓掳到巴比伦。

我一听见这事，就撕裂衣服和外袍，拔了头发和胡须，惊惧忧闷而坐。
