Woe to the city of blood, full of lies, full of plunder, never without victims!

How terrible it will be for Nineveh! It is a city of murderers! It is full of liars! It is filled with stolen goods! The killing never stops!

Woe to the bloody city, all full of lies and plunder— no end to the prey!

What sorrow awaits Nineveh, the city of murder and lies! She is crammed with wealth and is never without victims.

She does not trust the LORD; she does not seek the advice of her God.Her princes are as fierce as roaring lions; her rulers are as hungry as wolves in the desert, who completely devour their prey by morning.

“‘ Therefore this is what the sovereign LORD says: Woe to the city of bloodshed, the pot whose rot is in it, whose rot has not been removed from it! Empty it piece by piece. No lot has fallen on it.For her blood was in it; she poured it on an exposed rock; she did not pour it on the ground to cover it up with dust.To arouse anger, to take vengeance, I have placed her blood on an exposed rock so that it cannot be covered up.“‘ Therefore this is what the sovereign LORD says: Woe to the city of bloodshed! I will also make the pile high.

There is only cursing, lying, murder, stealing, and adultery. They resort to violence and bloodshed.

“ As for you, son of man, are you willing to pronounce judgment, are you willing to pronounce judgment on the bloody city? Then confront her with all her abominable deeds!Then say,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says: O city, who spills blood within herself( which brings on her doom), and who makes herself idols( which results in impurity),

The one who builds a city by bloodshed is as good as dead– he who starts a town by unjust deeds.

The lion tore apart as much prey as his cubs needed and strangled prey to provide food for his lionesses; he filled his lairs with prey and his dens with torn flesh.

In the evening there is sudden terror; by morning they vanish. This is the fate of those who try to plunder us, the destiny of those who try to loot us!

Who handed Jacob over to the robber? Who handed Israel over to the looters? Was it not the LORD, against whom we sinned? They refused to follow his commands; they disobeyed his law.

They no longer sing and drink wine; the beer tastes bitter to those who drink it.
