Where now is the lions’ den, the place where they fed their young, where the lion and lioness went, and the cubs, with nothing to fear?

Assyria is like a lion. Where is the lions’ den now? Where did they feed their cubs? Where did all the lions go? In their den they had nothing to fear.

Where is the lions’ den, the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and lioness went, where his cubs were, with none to disturb?

Where now is that great Nineveh, that den filled with young lions? It was a place where people— like lions and their cubs— walked freely and without fear.

Where is the lions’ lair, or the feeding ground of the young lions, where the lion and lioness prowled, and the lion’s cub, with nothing to frighten them away?

Where is the den of the lions And the feeding place of the young lions, Where the lion, lioness, and lion’s cub went With nothing to disturb them?

Their roaring[ shall be] like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry[ it] away safe, and none shall deliver[ it].

The young lions roared upon him,[ and] yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.

The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion’s whelps are scattered abroad.

Israel[ is] a scattered sheep; the lions have driven[ him] away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.

And say, What[ is] thy mother? A lioness: she lay down among lions, she nourished her whelps among young lions.And she brought up one of her whelps: it became a young lion, and it learned to catch the prey; it devoured men.The nations also heard of him; he was taken in their pit, and they brought him with chains unto the land of Egypt.Now when she saw that she had waited,[ and] her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps,[ and] made him a young lion.And he went up and down among the lions, he became a young lion, and learned to catch the prey,[ and] devoured men.And he knew their desolate palaces, and he laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and the fulness thereof, by the noise of his roaring.Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces, and spread their net over him: he was taken in their pit.

Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who[ is] a chosen[ man, that] I may appoint over her? for who[ is] like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who[ is] that shepherd that will stand before me?

Woe to the bloody city! it[ is] all full of lies[ and] robbery; the prey departeth not;

Judah[ is] a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?

For thus hath the LORD spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him,[ he] will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.

The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate;[ and] thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

Her princes within her[ are] roaring lions; her judges[ are] evening wolves; they gnaw not the bones till the morrow.
