The Lord is a jealous God who punishes people. He pays them back for the evil things they do. He directs his anger against them. The Lord punishes his enemies. He holds his anger back until the right time to use it.

The Lord is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and rage. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and continues to rage against his enemies!

“ Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath.

But Joshua said to the people,“ You are not able to serve the Lord, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins.

O Lord, God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, shine forth!

( for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God),

For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

The Lord goes out like a mighty man, like a man of war he stirs up his zeal; he cries out, he shouts aloud, he shows himself mighty against his foes.

For we know him who said,“ Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again,“ The Lord will judge his people.”

He who is far off shall die of pestilence, and he who is near shall fall by the sword, and he who is left and is preserved shall die of famine. Thus I will spend my fury upon them.

Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and say to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I have spoken in my jealous wrath, because you have suffered the reproach of the nations.

then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,

will he be angry forever, will he be indignant to the end?’ Behold, you have spoken, but you have done all the evil that you could.”

then I will walk contrary to you in fury, and I myself will discipline you sevenfold for your sins.

for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer.

Circumcise yourselves to the Lord; remove the foreskin of your hearts, O men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn with none to quench it, because of the evil of your deeds.”

Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written,“ Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.He will render to each one according to his works:

Then the Lord became jealous for his land and had pity on his people.

“‘ Is not this laid up in store with me, sealed up in my treasuries?Vengeance is mine, and recompense, for the time when their foot shall slip; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and their doom comes swiftly.’

So the angel who talked with me said to me,‘ Cry out, Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion.

if I sharpen my flashing sword and my hand takes hold on judgment, I will take vengeance on my adversaries and will repay those who hate me.I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh— with the blood of the slain and the captives, from the long-haired heads of the enemy.’“ Rejoice with him, O heavens; bow down to him, all gods, for he avenges the blood of his children and takes vengeance on his adversaries. He repays those who hate him and cleanses his people’s land.”

But on that day, the day that Gog shall come against the land of Israel, declares the Lord God, my wrath will be roused in my anger.

To fill his belly to the full, God will send his burning anger against him and rain it upon him into his body.

“ For behold, the Lord will come in fire, and his chariots like the whirlwind, to render his anger in fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.

Therefore I will act in wrath. My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. And though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, I will not hear them.”

It may be that their plea for mercy will come before the Lord, and that every one will turn from his evil way, for great is the anger and wrath that the Lord has pronounced against this people.”

He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and wrapped himself in zeal as a cloak.According to their deeds, so will he repay, wrath to his adversaries, repayment to his enemies; to the coastlands he will render repayment.

Wake yourself, wake yourself, stand up, O Jerusalem, you who have drunk from the hand of the Lord the cup of his wrath, who have drunk to the dregs the bowl, the cup of staggering.

“ I have trodden the winepress alone, and from the peoples no one was with me; I trod them in my anger and trampled them in my wrath; their lifeblood spattered on my garments, and stained all my apparel.For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and my year of redemption had come.I looked, but there was no one to help; I was appalled, but there was no one to uphold; so my own arm brought me salvation, and my wrath upheld me.I trampled down the peoples in my anger; I made them drunk in my wrath, and I poured out their lifeblood on the earth.”

“ Therefore thus says the Lord God: Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and have mercy on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for my holy name.

“ Thus shall my anger spend itself, and I will vent my fury upon them and satisfy myself. And they shall know that I am the Lord— that I have spoken in my jealousy— when I spend my fury upon them.

Thus the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me:“ Take from my hand this cup of the wine of wrath, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it.

Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love.

The Lord gave full vent to his wrath; he poured out his hot anger, and he kindled a fire in Zion that consumed its foundations.

And in anger and wrath I will execute vengeance on the nations that did not obey.

Your sons have fainted; they lie at the head of every street like an antelope in a net; they are full of the wrath of the Lord, the rebuke of your God.
