From you, Nineveh, has one come forth who plots evil against the Lord and devises wicked plans.

Nineveh, a king has marched out from you. He makes evil plans against the Lord. He thinks about how he can do what is wrong.

From you came one who plotted evil against the Lord, a worthless counselor.

Who is this wicked counselor of yours who plots evil against the Lord?

From you has gone out One who plotted evil against the Lord, A wicked counselor.

From you comes forth one Who plots evil against the Lord, A wicked counselor.

There is one gone forth out of thee, that deviseth evil against Jehovah, that counselleth wickedness.

One has gone out from you, who plots evil against Yahweh, and is a wicked counselor.

There is[ one] come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor.

From you, O Nineveh, one has marched forth who plots evil against the LORD, a wicked military strategist.

There is one gone out of you, who devises evil against Yahweh, who counsels wickedness.

Whatever you plot against the LORD, he will bring it to complete destruction; oppression will not rise up a second time.

Then worthless and wicked men gathered around him to resist Rehoboam son of Solomon when Rehoboam was young, inexperienced, and unable to assert himself against them.

Who is it you mocked and blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel!You have mocked the Lord through your messengers. I designed it long ago; I planned it in days gone by. I have now brought it to pass, and you have crushed fortified cities into piles of rubble.

Eli’s sons were wicked men; they did not respect the LORD

But this is not what he intends; this is not what he plans. It is his intent to destroy and to cut off many nations.For he says,“ Aren’t all my commanders kings?Isn’t Calno like Carchemish? Isn’t Hamath like Arpad? Isn’t Samaria like Damascus?As my hand seized the kingdoms of worthless images, kingdoms whose idols exceeded those of Jerusalem and Samaria,and as I did to Samaria and its worthless images will I not also do to Jerusalem and its idols?”But when the Lord finishes all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, he will say,“ I will punish the king of Assyria for his arrogant acts and the proud look in his eyes.”For he said: I have done this by my own strength and wisdom, for I am clever. I abolished the borders of nations and plundered their treasures; like a mighty warrior, I subjugated the inhabitants.My hand has reached out, as if into a nest, to seize the wealth of the nations. Like one gathering abandoned eggs, I gathered the whole earth. No wing fluttered; no beak opened or chirped.Does an ax exalt itself above the one who chops with it? Does a saw magnify itself above the one who saws with it? It would be like a rod waving the ones who lift it! It would be like a staff lifting the one who isn’t wood!

Don’t let Hezekiah persuade you to rely on the LORD by saying,“ Certainly the LORD will rescue us! This city will not be handed over to the king of Assyria.”’

So now, don’t let Hezekiah deceive you, and don’t let him mislead you like this. Don’t believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to rescue his people from my power or the power of my predecessors. How much less will your God rescue you from my power!’”His servants said more against the LORD God and against his servant Hezekiah.He also wrote letters to mock the LORD, the God of Israel, saying against him: Just like the national gods of the lands that did not rescue their people from my power, so Hezekiah’s God will not rescue his people from my power.Then they called out loudly in Hebrew to the people of Jerusalem, who were on the wall, to frighten and discourage them in order that he might capture the city.They spoke against the God of Jerusalem like they had spoken against the gods of the peoples of the earth, which were made by human hands.

In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Assyria’s King Sennacherib attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.So King Hezekiah of Judah sent word to the king of Assyria at Lachish:“ I have done wrong; withdraw from me. Whatever you demand from me, I will pay.” The king of Assyria demanded eleven tons of silver and one ton of gold from King Hezekiah of Judah.

Now a wicked man, a Benjaminite named Sheba son of Bichri, happened to be there. He blew the ram’s horn and shouted: We have no portion in David, no inheritance in Jesse’s son. Each man to his tent, Israel!
