And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them,“ If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”

Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said,“ Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

Jesus sat down and called for the 12 disciples to come to him. Then he said,“ Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last. They must be the servant of everyone.”

But Jesus called them to Himself and said,“ You know that the rulers of the Gentiles Lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them.Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you,‘ Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you.For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:“ God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves.

But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.

I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom.

And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, I will bring adversity on all flesh,” says the Lord.“ But I will give your life to you as a prize in all places, wherever you go.”’”
