Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said,“ Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

Jesus sat down and called for the 12 disciples to come to him. Then he said,“ Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last. They must be the servant of everyone.”

And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them,“ If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”

耶穌召之來、謂之曰、異邦人有君主之、有大臣秉權轄之、爾所知也、惟爾曹則不可如此、爾中欲為大者、當為爾役、欲為首者、當為爾僕、即如人子來、非以役人、乃役於人、且舍其生以贖眾也、○

爾被請之時、往坐末位、則請爾者、來謂爾曰、友、上坐、則爾在同席者前有榮矣、因自高者將降為卑、自卑者將升為高也、○

然彼賜恩尤大、故曰、天主擯斥驕傲者、賜恩於謙卑者、

惟爾曹不可如此、爾曹中為大者當如少、為首者當如役、

爾曹中至大者、當為爾役、

我告爾、得稱義而歸者、此也、非彼也、蓋凡自高者必降為卑、自卑者將升為高、○

人恃驕泰、常啟爭端、聽勸言者、則為有智、

爾猶為己圖維大事乎、爾勿圖維、蓋我必降災於凡有血氣者、惟爾無論何往、我仍使爾得保全生命、此乃主所言、
