They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them,“ What were you arguing about on the road?”

Jesus and his disciples came to a house in Capernaum. There he asked them,“ What were you arguing about on the road?”

And they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house he asked them,“ What were you discussing on the way?”

After they arrived at Capernaum and settled in a house, Jesus asked his disciples,“ What were you discussing out on the road?”

諸徒嘗起爭心、欲知同人孰為最大。耶穌洞燭其意、乃攜一孩提至、使立己側、而謂其徒曰：『凡以予名義納此小兒者、即納予、亦即納遣予者。蓋爾中最小者、斯為大矣。』

爾時門徒進而問曰：『天國中、孰為大？』耶穌呼一孩提、使立諸徒中、曰：『吾實告爾爾若不幡然化為赤子、則末由進天國。故惟自謙自小若此孩者、斯天國中之大人也。凡因余名接納若斯一孩者、即納我也。

明哉雅瑋。燭幽洞微。諳我起居。鑒我秘思。行藏出處。明察罔遺。心聲未發。主已先知。

三問曰：『若納子西門、汝果慕我乎？』伯鐸祿因三次見問、不覺愀然曰：『主乎、爾固無所不知、當知吾之慕爾矣。』主曰：『飼吾羊！

其子女均將夭折；俾諸教會皆知吾洞察人心、且將按爾中各人之行為而施報應焉。

蓋彼洞幽燭微、於人無所不悉、固無待外證耳。

凡屬受造之物、莫不在天主明鑒之下、腑肺盡露；吾人皆向渠負責、固無所逃於天地間也。

耶穌立燭其意、曰：『爾心何為竊議？

曰：『輸也。』伯鐸祿入室、耶穌先問曰：『西門於意云何、世之君王、向誰徵課、己子乎？抑外人乎？』
