They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them,“ What were you arguing about on the road?”

Jesus and his disciples came to a house in Capernaum. There he asked them,“ What were you arguing about on the road?”

An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest.Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him.Then he said to them,“ Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.” (niv)

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked,“ Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them.And he said:“ Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. (niv)

The third time he said to him,“ Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time,“ Do you love me?” He said,“ Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said,“ Feed my sheep. (niv)

I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds. (niv)

He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person. (niv)

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. (niv)

Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them,“ Why are you thinking these things? (niv)

After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two- drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked,“ Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?” (niv)
