后来，门徒起了意见，争论谁是最大的。耶稣看出他们的心意，就领了一个小孩子来，叫他站在自己旁边，对他们说：“凡因我的名接待这小孩子的，就是接待我；凡接待我的，就是接待那差我来的。谁是你们中间最小的，那人就是最大的。”

那时，门徒前来问耶稣：“天国里谁是最大的呢？”耶稣叫了一个小孩子站在他们当中，说：“我实在告诉你们，如果你们不回转，变成像小孩子一样，一定不能进天国。所以，凡谦卑像这小孩子的，他在天国里是最大的。凡因我的名接待一个这样的小孩子的，就是接待我；

耶和华啊！你鉴察了我，你认识我。（本节在《马索拉文本》包括细字标题）我坐下，我起来，你都知道；你在远处就明白我的意念。我行路，我躺卧，你都细察；我的一切行为，你都熟悉。耶和华啊！我的舌头还没有发言，你已经完全知道了。

耶稣第三次问他：“约翰的儿子西门，你爱我吗？”彼得因为耶稣第三次问他：“你爱我吗？”就忧愁起来，对耶稣说：“主啊，你是无所不知的，你知道我爱你。”耶稣说：“你喂养我的羊。

我必以死亡击杀她的儿女；众教会就都知道我是察验人肺腑心肠的，我要照着你们的行为报应你们各人。

也不需要谁指证人是怎样的，因为他知道人心里存的是什么。

被造的在神面前没有一样不是显明的，万有在他的眼前都是赤露敞开的；我们必须向他交帐。

耶稣心里立刻知道他们这样议论，就对他们说：“你们心里为什么议论这事？

他们来到迦百农，收殿税的人前来对彼得说：“你们的老师不纳税吗？”
