你不是在他四周圍上籬笆保護他嗎？他的家和他所有的一切，以及他手所作的，你都賜福，他的家產也在地上增添。只要你伸手打擊他所有的一切，他一定當面褻瀆你。”耶和華對撒但說：“好吧，他所有的一切都交在你手中，只是不可以伸手害他。”於是撒但從耶和華面前退去。

耶穌斥責他說：“住口！從他身上出來！”鬼把那人摔倒在眾人中間，就從他身上出來了，沒有傷害他。

因為耶穌已經吩咐這污靈從那人身上出來。原來這污靈屢次抓住那人；那人被鐵鍊和腳鍊捆鎖，而且有人看管，他竟掙斷鎖鍊，被鬼趕入曠野。

你們是出於你們的父魔鬼，喜歡按著你們的父的私慾行事。他從起初就是殺人的兇手，不守真理，因為他心裡沒有真理。他說謊是出於本性，因為他本來就是說謊者，也是說謊的人的父。

那孩子正走過來的時候，污鬼把他摔倒，使他重重地抽瘋。耶穌斥責那污靈，把孩子醫好，交給他父親。

無論在哪裡，鬼抓住他，把他摔倒，他就口吐白沫，咬牙切齒，渾身僵硬。我請你的門徒把鬼趕出去，他們卻辦不到。”

你們要謹守、警醒。你們的仇敵魔鬼，好像吼叫的獅子走來走去，尋找可以吞吃的人；

那鬼大聲喊叫，使孩子重重地抽了一陣瘋，就出來了。孩子好像死了一樣，所以許多人都說：“他死了！”

那人經常住在墳墓中間，從來沒有人能綁住他，甚至用鎖鍊都不能。曾經有很多次，人用腳鐐和鎖鍊捆綁他，鎖鍊卻被他掙斷，腳鐐也被他弄碎，始終沒有人能制伏他。他晝夜在墳墓裡和山野間喊叫，又用石頭砍自己。

耶和華對撒但說：“好吧，他在你手中，不過，要留存他的命。”於是撒但從耶和華面前退去，擊打約伯，使他從腳掌到頭頂都生了毒瘡。約伯坐在灰燼中，拿瓦片刮自己。
