污鬼使那人抽搐了一陣，大叫一聲，就出來了。

你豈不是像籬笆一樣四面保護他及其全家和一切產業嗎？你使他事事蒙福，牛羊遍地。倘若你伸手毀壞他擁有的一切，他必當面褻瀆你。」耶和華對撒旦說：「好吧，他的一切都在你手中，但不可傷害他。」撒旦便從耶和華面前退去。

耶穌責備牠說：「住口！從他身上出來！」污鬼當場把那人摔倒，然後從他身上離開了，絲毫沒有傷害他。

這是因為耶穌已命令污鬼離開那人。那人多次被污鬼操縱，人們用鐵鏈腳鐐把他鎖起來看管，他竟把鎖鏈也扯斷，被鬼催逼到荒野。

你們是出於你們的父魔鬼，你們樂意順著牠的私慾行。魔鬼從起初就是個殺人兇手，從不站在真理這一邊，因為牠心裡根本沒有真理。撒謊是牠的本性，因為牠是撒謊者，又是撒謊者的始祖。

那孩子走過來時，鬼又把他摔倒，使他抽搐，耶穌立刻斥責污鬼，把那孩子治好了，交給他父親。

每次鬼控制他，把他摔在地上，他就口吐白沫，咬牙切齒，全身僵硬。我請你的門徒趕走那鬼，他們卻辦不到。」

你們務要謹慎，警醒，因為你們的仇敵魔鬼好像咆哮的獅子四處遊走，尋找可以吞吃的獵物。

那鬼發出喊叫，使孩子劇烈地抽搐了一陣，就出來了。孩子躺在地上一動也不動，大家都以為他死了。

那人以墳場為家，從來沒有人能把他捆住，就算用鐵鏈也鎖不住他。儘管有人多次用鐵鏈和腳鐐鎖住他，但他掙斷了鐵鏈，砸碎了腳鐐。沒有人能制伏他。他晝夜在墳場和山野間大喊大叫，又用石頭砍自己。

耶和華說：「好吧，他在你手中，但要留他一命。」於是，撒旦從耶和華面前退去，開始加害約伯，使他從頭到腳長毒瘡。約伯坐在爐灰中，拿瓦片刮身體。
