污鬼使那人抽搐了一阵，大叫一声，就出来了。

你岂不是像篱笆一样四面保护他及其全家和一切产业吗？你使他事事蒙福，牛羊遍地。倘若你伸手毁坏他拥有的一切，他必当面亵渎你。”耶和华对撒旦说：“好吧，他的一切都在你手中，但不可伤害他。”撒旦便从耶和华面前退去。

耶稣责备它说：“住口！从他身上出来！”污鬼当场把那人摔倒，然后从他身上离开了，丝毫没有伤害他。

这是因为耶稣已命令污鬼离开那人。那人多次被污鬼操纵，人们用铁链脚镣把他锁起来看管，他竟把锁链也扯断，被鬼催逼到荒野。

你们是出于你们的父魔鬼，你们乐意顺着它的私欲行。魔鬼从起初就是个杀人凶手，从不站在真理这一边，因为它心里根本没有真理。撒谎是它的本性，因为它是撒谎者，又是撒谎者的始祖。

那孩子走过来时，鬼又把他摔倒，使他抽搐，耶稣立刻斥责污鬼，把那孩子治好了，交给他父亲。

每次鬼控制他，把他摔在地上，他就口吐白沫，咬牙切齿，全身僵硬。我请你的门徒赶走那鬼，他们却办不到。”

你们务要谨慎，警醒，因为你们的仇敌魔鬼好像咆哮的狮子四处游走，寻找可以吞吃的猎物。

那鬼发出喊叫，使孩子剧烈地抽搐了一阵，就出来了。孩子躺在地上一动也不动，大家都以为他死了。

那人以坟场为家，从来没有人能把他捆住，就算用铁链也锁不住他。尽管有人多次用铁链和脚镣锁住他，但他挣断了铁链，砸碎了脚镣。没有人能制服他。他昼夜在坟场和山野间大喊大叫，又用石头砍自己。

耶和华说：“好吧，他在你手中，但要留他一命。”于是，撒旦从耶和华面前退去，开始加害约伯，使他从头到脚长毒疮。约伯坐在炉灰中，拿瓦片刮身体。
