About eight days later Jesus took Peter, John, and James up on a mountain to pray.And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became dazzling white.Suddenly, two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared and began talking with Jesus.They were glorious to see. And they were speaking about his exodus from this world, which was about to be fulfilled in Jerusalem.Peter and the others had fallen asleep. When they woke up, they saw Jesus’ glory and the two men standing with him.As Moses and Elijah were starting to leave, Peter, not even knowing what he was saying, blurted out,“ Master, it’s wonderful for us to be here! Let’s make three shelters as memorials— one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”But even as he was saying this, a cloud overshadowed them, and terror gripped them as the cloud covered them.Then a voice from the cloud said,“ This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him.”When the voice finished, Jesus was there alone. They didn’t tell anyone at that time what they had seen.

Six days later Jesus took Peter and the two brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain to be alone.As the men watched, Jesus’ appearance was transformed so that his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light.Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking with Jesus.Peter exclaimed,“ Lord, it’s wonderful for us to be here! If you want, I’ll make three shelters as memorials— one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said,“ This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him.”The disciples were terrified and fell face down on the ground.Then Jesus came over and touched them.“ Get up,” he said.“ Don’t be afraid.”And when they looked up, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they saw only Jesus.

Then Jesus stopped the crowd and wouldn’t let anyone go with him except Peter, James, and John( the brother of James).

He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he became deeply troubled and distressed.

So Moses and his assistant Joshua set out, and Moses climbed up the mountain of God.

Your eyes will see the king in all his splendor, and you will see a land that stretches into the distance.

When Moses came down Mount Sinai carrying the two stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant, he wasn’t aware that his face had become radiant because he had spoken to the Lord.So when Aaron and the people of Israel saw the radiance of Moses’ face, they were afraid to come near him.But Moses called out to them and asked Aaron and all the leaders of the community to come over, and he talked with them.Then all the people of Israel approached him, and Moses gave them all the instructions the Lord had given him on Mount Sinai.When Moses finished speaking with them, he covered his face with a veil.But whenever he went into the Tent of Meeting to speak with the Lord, he would remove the veil until he came out again. Then he would give the people whatever instructions the Lord had given him,and the people of Israel would see the radiant glow of his face. So he would put the veil over his face until he returned to speak with the Lord.

Afterward he appeared in a different form to two of his followers who were walking from Jerusalem into the country.

And standing in the middle of the lampstands was someone like the Son of Man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across his chest.His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were like flames of fire.His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves.He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was like the sun in all its brilliance.When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said,“ Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last.

My servant grew up in the Lord’s presence like a tender green shoot, like a root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him.

And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide.

So Ahab went to eat and drink. But Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and bowed low to the ground and prayed with his face between his knees.

He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form,he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

This is the third time I am coming to visit you( and as the Scriptures say,“ The facts of every case must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses”).

As soon as Jesus heard the news, he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone. But the crowds heard where he was headed and followed on foot from many towns.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Jesus replied,“ Elijah is indeed coming first to get everything ready.But I tell you, Elijah has already come, but he wasn’t recognized, and they chose to abuse him. And in the same way they will also make the Son of Man suffer.”Then the disciples realized he was talking about John the Baptist.

The old way, with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away.Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life?If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God!In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory of the new way.

One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night.

So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

He piled wood on the altar, cut the bull into pieces, and laid the pieces on the wood. Then he said,“ Fill four large jars with water, and pour the water over the offering and the wood.”

For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyeswhen he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him,“ This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.
